My PB Sheepshead

I’ve been trying to catch my PB sheepshead all Spring and finally did it! Also had a rare encounter. https://youtu.be/ECdrR-2G97I

That convict is striped up nice.

What a pretty fush.

Even prettier on your plate.

Congratulations and thanks for sharing.

Very nice! Sheepshead fishing is highly under rated. Its almost as fun for me as stalking tailers in the grass!

Very nice fish. That is one fish I have yet to catch.

"Apathy is the Glove into Which Evil Slips It's Hand", but really, who cares?

I like the edit. you left in the times when you pull up the empty hook.

Pea ain’t joking, I have caught my share of them convicts, but it’s like you gotta set the hook before they open their mouth.
Go ahead and let your line sit after you feel a little bump you gonna need to rebait the hook everytime.

BTW,good looking fish.

Thanks for posting the pic. Very nice fish! My personal best was caught drifting over an oyster bed with a live shrimp under a cork 15 or so years ago. 8.5lbs and not a bridge or pier for miles around. Never know what you’ll catch in saltwater.

In my experience you don’t really catch convicts by “feeling the bite”, although with the right set-up you certainly can feel something, but what you feel is actually the hook being spit out.

Try leaving your rod tip not quite so close to the waters edge as seen in the video, but as close to 90 degrees as possible. Its hard fishing under and around docks to not leave the tip close to the water I know, but what you are trying to do really is while “feeling” for the bite is to watch (#1)the very tip of your rod and (#2, most important)where the line enters the water. Keeping a keen eye on those two things combined as they are your strike indicator.

Also another thing that helped me on sheeps was switching to Owner Gorilla Hooks. The short shank and wider gap is mo-bedda. Make sure and tie the snell knot correctly so’s they button up and not down when you bring the line tight.

Go back and watch the video on your hits, but mostly on the misses and watch the line just where it enters the water and maybe you’ll pick up what I’m laying down. Its just an instant, but it’s there. Hope that helps

That’s some golden info, from E D. Used to be a lot of great stuff to help catch sheep, but the search function just doesn’t work like it used to.

I’ve targeted sheeps a few times and had decent luck (but never fantastic), used fiddlers and cut peeled shrimp, but the best bait I’ve used is bashing up a oyster and wrapping it on my hook. If you don’t get a sheep, you catch every mother-in-law fish around. Never done it but I’ve heard you can put the raw oyster in panty hose then on the hook. ?

I usually look for my line to either go side to side or back and forth. Sometimes it may go up and down.

That’s what I’m talking about Juke, well done man!
Definitely some pro-tips from EF, thanks for the refresher course guys:+1:
