BTW, my favorite rod is a custom 7ft 3wt w/ a G Loomis blank. I had it built about 15 years ago in western NC. It doesn’t do me much good down here in the lowcountry tho.
So much water, So little time
Flyguy, I say we find a day in C’ton with 2 tailing tides and be there for both.

It gets me around…
If you want a salt water fly rod you don’t want to get less than an 8wt. rod. If you found a $400 sage rod then go for it. I live in Virginia and I use a 5wt Sage Z-axis…and it is an awesome rod! When I started fly fishing I used a 4wt Sage Launch. For Saltwater I have a Zero Gravity Orvis 9wt. This is a great rod for saltwater…it costs about $700 new from orvis but you can find orvis retail stores…I bought mine brand new for $300 from the orvis retail store in Roanoke VA.
All fishing is expensive but fly fishing is very expensive and you you don’t want to waste a bunch of money if you can’t get into it. It takes a lot of patience learning to cast and to present a fly. But it is the most rewarding way to fish in my opinion. You should go to ebay and just buy a 5-8wt rod. Get a 4 peice b/c they cost close to the same and its easier to put it in yout car. You shouldn’t spend too much on a reel…definitely spend 95% of your money on the rod!
