How did that work for you?
Problem solved - almost ashamed to tell what it was , but it might save someone else some heartache down the road. In order to change the high pressure fuel filter, the flywheel cover and the airbox are the first that have to be removed. When the airbox was pulled off - we found a friggen birds-nest wad of leaves and moss hung up on the screen - the motor was starving for air at high RPM’s. Carolina wren’s are famous for this - especially this time of year. Must of started stockpiling material for the nest at the upper rear of the cowling and the suction pulled it down to the screen where it restricted the airflow. River test at 6000rpm verified fix. Thanks for all the answers and opinions - at least I know more about my engine than I did before.

Wow, I will have to remember that for the future. Glad you got it figured out.
Glad it was somethin easy, and glad u figured it out before you paid someone to tell u there was a birds nest in there, ive heard of the bird nest thing before with the identical johnson engine tho it hasnt happened to mine…where is the high pressure fuel filter at, just replaced all the filters so i thought…fuel, oil, and fuel/water separator…

forgot about the intake being restricted.
we had same thing a while back, and it was a plastic wrapper from a cigarette box.
I’m now at www.teamcharlestonmarine.com
I wonder if Suzuki’s ECU has a “code” for bird’s nest in the intake???

I suppose this reinforces the old adage - “keep it simple, stupid”. I mean - what does it take for an internal engine to run - fire, fuel, and air.

Mr Pierson: YOU ARE THE MAN:smiley: Thanks for the info. I pulled mine down this morning and it was 1/3 blocked, I had removed a bird nest last year and have spent over 700.00 since trying to get the RPMs back up. One dealer didn’t even pull the cowl off, But thanks again, enjoyed the talk Tue night. GOOD LUCK and GOD BLESS
