the first smart thing i did was ask questions on here, the next best thing is i hired a guide and picked his brain,he was very helpful on how to setup the FF and how to read it…since mine was a different brand as soon as we were done i took my boat back to the same areas and watched my screen to see how my FF(garmin) looked compared to his(lowrance)…that has made a big difference for me…after that i can find fish but couldn’t seem to catch any,so i continued to ask questions here and have invited some of the members here out on the boat,so far Chrisg has gone and his knowledge helped me somemore,so as you can see there is a learning curve to this…
hopefully Tprice will be next???
so you are off to a great start.
as far as the abu reels i have 2 6500’s i bought new and 4 6000’s i got off e-bay,both are great reels for striper fishing…ugly stic rods are a good match to these reels…
also a couple of casting rods ready to go are a smart addition, when the schooling starts you will be ready…
i also have 2 penn 320 gt’s and 2 330 gti’s i use for trolling, i can convert them to offshore rigging real quick if need be…
as far as fish finders,if i had it to do all over again i would probably have a lowrance as my striper FF and keep my garmin chartplotter for offshore stuff…i am partial to garmin because i am very comfortable with the layout since i have always had them, but i believe a lowrance gives a better quality reading when it comes to fish finders(just my 2 cents)…
definately hire a guide!!!if you could find one to actually go out on your boat after its ready ,that would be an even bigger plus…
ctoolman, what lake are you usually on? just curious more than anything. I’ve got several people that I know that that regularly fish murray (sucessfully), and I have a feeling I can talk them into riding along on my boat once I get it ready, I may try to ride along with a few of them up until I’ve got everything I need. There is a guide on murray (blue herron), I can hit the dock at his house from my uncles, so I may sign up to go out with him at some point if I’ve got the funds, hopefully it wont be too difficult to get the hang of it all. thanks everyone for your help.
You are more that welcome to get on my boat to fish, I am going in the AM (10-20).I will be pulling planer boards around Wessinger and Johns Creek. Or if you need some ideas you can come look at my boat at the house in Whiterock. My setup is the following: 04 Scout F150, 20 Gallon Ron vest Tank W/ Dannco venturi air, Diawa LC27 line counter reels, 7’6" Ugly Stick striper rods, Minn kota 65 auto pilot, I use Gator Planer Boards and love them. You should fish a couple of the MSC tournaments with us. Give me a call some time if you would like to fish sometime.
My uncle is david foster, if you go past Capt. Randys house into Hawley Creek, his house is the one on the point as you make the turn at the shoal marker, has a floating dock off each side of the pier and a pontoon with a hardtop on the larger one. I hang out on newberry shores a lot, which house was yours?

Thanks for the invite, I am actually in Ft. Worth right this minute for work, actually sitting in the office (at 7:15, bah) finishing up a few work orders. I work with Dan’s wife (of dannco) at jaderloon in irmo, Dan does all his stuff in the same building as ours, I think I will have to walk down the hall to get a bait pump . Where do you normally launch from. We’ll have to get together at somepoint in the near future.
Auto,
I thought a bait tank would take up alot of room in the Mckee so I decided to mount an air bubbler system, which works great for me. I bought a fairly inexpensive one from Boaters World and mounted the unit high in the bilge area of my McKee. I drilled a access hole in the inside transom wall under the rear seat to help run the tubing, and sealed it with a round access plate. I then drilled two small holes into the livewells to run the tubing to the air stones. I can keep 3 dozen bluebacks (per tank) alive all day with the proper care, and the unit is silent. I was using portable battery powered units before the install and they were very annoying, but worked very well. Hope this gives you another idea/option. If you would like to see the install, shoot me an email and I would be glad to show it to you next time I’m in Columbia. Keith

what McKee do you have, I’ve got a 2000 1800 pulse 1800 CC, old style with the steped euro transom. Do you have any pics of your install by chance. I know that the tanks are not the short fall of my setup, it’s the pluming and the fact that my boat is full of foam, which makes modification pluming difficult. You don’t happen do be the same guy that post under the name of oldriser on THT do you?

I usally launch from the Lighthouse Marina, I like the people and the security there.
i fish on lake hartwell…but if fuel prices would stablize i wouldn’t mind trying clarks hill or lake murray too…of course if the prices got real good i would be going offshore since that was my intended purpose when i bought the whaler.
As you came into newberry shores take the road to the right & it was the 4th house on the left, a grey single wide. It was a nice place but we needed something with more room so we purchased a larger place right past blacks bridge on the left.

You are not very far away from me at all then, I am in caughman acres, when you pass big mans (little river marina), first road to the left. Have you been to the new marina that’s by blacks bridge? We float back and forth between Big mans, hollands, and dano’s most of the time, and havent been in there yet. I am normally in a 18.5 McKee Craft with a blue rub rail, and a johnson 115 on the back, looks just like a DNR boat.
Auto,
I have an 04 18’ Pulse similar to yours so I’m familiar with the foam issue, but that did not pose a problem with the install. Sorry no pics, but I may be up on the lake Sunday. Email or post your number and I’ll give you a call next time I’m up that way. Same name on THT. I’ve been toying with selling her so If you know of anyone looking for a loaded(every option) blue hull Pulse let me know.
That guy with the 04 Scout will put you on the fish Autobahn. He is the Lake Murray Striper king. He uses only the best equipment and fishes several times per week. I think his name is “Striper” Blackwell.
