New Boat Advice

I’ve rigged a few of them and you can see light shining through the sides on some of the older ones. Not something I’d want to be in when the water gets rough!!! Plus I don’t think they could use cheaper switches, hardware and electronics if they could.

My last boat was a 79 John Allmand - had enough fiberglass to make 3 boats out of it. Guess what? I too could see light thru the hull.

Trophys are no different than most of the other run of the mill “cheaper” boats. They are not going to fall apart in the ocean, they are not going to just sink for no reason, they ride fairly well, they last as long as boats 3x the cost… they do use cheap(er) switches and guages.

No, I don’t own one. My buddy has a 00’ 21 WA thats been used hard for the past 12 years, the boat is fine. My other buddy owns one of the biggest fiberglass repair shops on the upper chesapeake, talk to him about trophies vs other boats. You will get a education about the other boats that you probably don’t want to hear.

Sorry, jughead, I didn’t intend to step on anyones toes, but I have seen with my own eyes several bayliners/trophys with bad hull fractures. They were all older and had been no doubt misused. One guy brought me one two years ago to work on his motor and I told him about the 8 inch crack on both sides vertically right behind the windshield. As far as I know he’s still using it!! I have seen several other makes with cracked transoms, but never as many as I’ve seen on trophys.I guess my point is I have seen some good boats and some bad ones. You can tear up the best built boat in the world if you don’t know or care what you are doing.
