I agree totally and have been a big proponent of this for years. However, you’d be hard pressed to find charter guys regularly loading the 'gloo. Most are conservative at heart and want their fish in their spots for the next time. However, I have seen client + guide limits plenty of times. It would be good if the guide limit was just taken out of the equation. Plain and simple.
I don’t know you, I assume you’re a guide, so it would be nice to get some more input from you.
It would make sense for guides to be advocates for catch and release, they’re not only protecting a resource but protecting their livelihood.
That said, along with the tremendous increase in people fishing the area due to population increase, there’s been an exponential increase of inshore guides.
There are guides who certainly are serious about protecting the resource, then there are the “guides” living off of Daddy’s money who think all they need is a boat, a buff, and a Yeti to
Good fishermen and guides will usually police themselves, and their clients. They have to, to keep on fishing. As an inshore fishing guide I almost never kept a fish for myself, or included it in the limit of fish kept. Many people who come down for inshore charters aren’t interested in keeping any fish anyway. They are staying in hotels, eating in restaurants, buying gas and tackle and contributing a lot to the local economy. They are also sightseeing and not prepared to keep fish for 3 days until they go home.

I’ve posted it many times in past and still believe pollution is single largest reason for decline in all mentioned species. Old timers
have seen it happening for years, I’ve personally seen the decline
in the cobia population in b river with most of it happening in last
10 yrs and I don’t live anywhere near there. I will add the guides and charter have the most to lose on a financial side and to help the decline should not use capt and mates quotas to up boat limit and make a bigger catch legal… my opinion!!!

The Southern Redfish Tour results are proof positive of the severely waning numbers of juvenile reds throughout the entire state. If you compare results from previous tournaments, it is very easy to see the severe drop off in quality of slot fish weighed. I didn’t even stick around the weigh in with a 9.93 (3 fish) weight that turned into a 9.68 because of 1 dead fish because I felt it would take at least 10-11 lbs. to cut a check ( top 10) even with low numbers as compared to years past. Cale and I ended up 6th, really 7th because of a DQ on a no wake violation. This is pathetic! 25 of 50 field did not weigh 1 fish. Only 16 boats weighed more than 1. These are some of the top anglers in the state, and only a few 4 pounders were weighed. It used to take more than a 4 pound average to cut a check just 4 years ago. The field fished from Hilton Head to Georgetown. Something has to be done quickly.
The only factor not mentioned so far are the limits on sharks. 45 years ago I could legally catch a cooler full of sharks. Other species were plentiful.
Now sharks are protected, and other species are getting scarcer. I know sharks are supposed to be scavengers. But, they are on the redflats eating redfish food. At the least they are competitors for food.
Maybe there is only a weak connection to the increase in the shark population and the decline of other species. I wonder if anyone has done any research on this.

The “ Capt” I saw was from Beaufort area. 3 sports, 12 fish and one looked over the slot but I can’t prove that. I called the guy out on it and he said the Capt was good with it. He wouldn’t give me the guy’s name cause he could tell I was pretty hot about it.
