Night Fishing on Lake Murray

Kloud, I was thinking the same thing. Buying bait is getting old. My favorite is catching Large Mouth, however they outsmart me too much. Catching stripers is fun and I look like a hero come dinner time. Can you share the secret area ? bait ? he-he. One of my other favorite things is catching schooling stripers on top water. I heard a report that the large mouth are schooling a little around points. Actually they said 8-9 pound bass are schooling. I’ve never caught bass that big schooling. Sounds like fun, if its true. Anyway, my daughter likes to catch stripers because they are easy, well more like bream fishing. My Son likes Large Mouth better, he likes the challenge. I just havent found the pattern, location, bait for the large mouth. Thanks for the help. Oh yeah, I just replaced my fuse for my running lights, ha-ha. Boy that was a can of worms, huh.

yeah, it reminds me of the fourth this year. I went to irmo for some coke. There was none there so I went to lexington and got some crystal meth. Took the john boat out for some night fishing and forgot to turn on lights. Some guy almost ran me over. Since then I shine a spot light at all boats.

Yall too funny! Magnawake,
Go up the lake past Dreher Isl. where the lake makes a dog-leg turn. Thats where the upper saluda splits off from the lower saluda I think. When you get to the dog-leg you will either have to turn right to go towards the upper saluda or go straight into the lower saluda. “I don’t have my map with me right now”. Anyway on the point in front of you it will look like a cliff with a house on top and the edge drops straight off into the lake. Its about 15 feet deep right there and if you turned around 180 degrees you would be looking toward dreher isl. On the opposite side of that point is a cove with a lot of stumps. Looks like when they made the lake they just cut a bunch of trees down and left the stumps. Ease up into that cove and fish at daybreak with a top-water buzz-bait. Throw it right up to the bank and bring it back just slow enough to get it buzzing. I can almost garantee fish-almost! I never make garantees! LOL! After the sun comes up a little carolina rig or texas rig a watermellon seed zoom trick worm and fish around every stump and any grass around there and any boat docks. Another almost garantee fish! Fish the worm really slow and when you feel him bump lower your rod tip and let him take it for a little bit before seting the hook. Need to give him time to get it in his mouth. If you set the hook too soon you’ll miss him. Hope that helps.

Thanks Kloud. That helps out. I know that place. I havent fished it, but, we camped at the state park and pulled the kids on the tube there. I usually fish the Dam area, but I’m having a hard time finding good spots like the cover you mentioned. I live in Lex., so I might launch at Larry Koon and run across. I bet the bream bite in there as well. A preacher friend of mine wants me to take him camping and fishing, so that will be very close. I’ll be in touch, thanks again.

Mag,
I was just looking at a map of the lake and I was wrong about the split between the upper and lower saluda. Thats further up the lake. If you run past Dreher Island you will come to the dog-leg I was talking about and thats the spot. Also another good place is the north side of Wessinger island at the point where it is seperated from the little island next to it and also the east side of Dreher Isl. all the way to the end of the creek past Big Birds landing. The bridge for Dreher island road is right at big bird’s. Go past that about a mile and you will come to another bridge. After you go under that bridge, there is grass beds and hydrilla all over the place. Thats a good spot also. Here is a link to an interactive map of the lake. http://www.lakemurray.com/Lake_Murray_Map.aspx

Kloud, OK, thats cool. I’m glad to hear about the grass. I cant find it anywhere. I love topwater fishing around grass. Thanks again for the help.

Meth Lab Seized near Lexington

http://wistv.com/Global/story.asp?S=5188949

Just busting your chops Nauti:stuck_out_tongue:

I think cannon trial is located between Nazareth and Platt Srings rd, by the White Knol HS. I assume thats a little Meth bubbling over from out of Pelion. Although, Cannon trail is really not in Lexington, it’s really more closer to Red Bank, he-he. Glad those morons got caught anyway.

Ok guys,
Not bringing up anything again but a poontoon boat near Susie Ebert Island got ran over by a bass boat sunday night about 10:30 pm and one lady is missing. That’s what I was talking about making your presence known out there.

Lets see, Lighthouse marina and BAR on one side, Dockside BAR on the other (used to be anyway) converging into the main waterway, at night, on a weekend… hmmmm, yep it was bound to happen. For the last 5 years I’ve been boating in our 20ft Bowrider, fighting all the traffic in this area. I can honestly say it’s a miracle someone doesnt get killed every weekend. In the past we started going mostly during the week just because of the craziness. One of my favorite weekend things to do is hangout on the dock near the dam and watch the drunks try to put thier boats back on thier trailer about dark. I know, it’s a warped thing to do. Most people get off the water at dark, so really it’s not too bad later. I’ve had more trouble during the day. That particular part of the lake is a trouble spot at night due to the people that live on the Lake partying at the marina’s, then trying to get home after dark thirty. I just heard the news and they didnt say anything about alcohol being envolved. Thats good news, I guess. I do feel sorry for the family’s envolved.

Heard they found her yesterday morning. Didn’t hear anymore about what happened. Does anyone know who’s fault it was and if there was alcohol involved?

I saw a news interview with the pontoon boat driver. He said his toon was fully visable with nav light on etc. He saw the boat heading for them fast, coming up from the rear. He only had a couple of seconds. He jumped off the toon and the Bass boat struck the back end, also hitting the woman throwing her from the toon. The man tried diving down to find her with no luck. The man in the bass boat just sat in his boat, for some unknown reason. The DNR hasnt released the name of the bass boat driver or other info about alcohol etc. I’m wondering why this is thier policy. People could be learning from this mistake, however when they make thier minds up to spill the beans, the population will have forgotton. It’s almost like the DNR is trying to hide something. Bass boats do have blind spots while planning off, but this guy was going fast. It’s going to be interesting to find out why the guy just sat in his boat and did nothing. It’s sad, very sad.

I know in my bass boat the front seat is a hazard. It creates a blind spot when running. I don’t know why the guy would just sit there either. I wonder if she actually drowned or did the impact kill her. It’s a terrible trajedy.

That is a bad bad thing.

That lake has to be one of the most dangerous in the Southeast. There are just too many idiots out there.

Last weekend I was out with some friends. I know, I know, add one more idiot to the pile.

Anyway, there was some moron in a little jet boat flying around the no wake zone spraying about a 60 foot roostertail. They were all waving at everyone in the other boats like we were going to be impressed with their idiotic behavior. This is all while boats are pouring into the landing trying to get out ahead of the massive thunderstorm that was crushing us with 60 MPH wind gusts. Anyway, the idiot finally ties up to the dock and goes to get his truck. His coked out wife is sitting there holding the boat with the kids as we walk past and she tells the kids, “Don’t talk to them kids, I don’t associate with rude people.” I almost fell off the dock I was laughing so hard. She was upset because people didn’t wave back as her and her white trash family sped in circles through all the idling boats in the NO WAKE zone.

People really are the worst you know?

I was there that day as well. She was definitely trash, feel bad for those kids. That was quite a windy storm. Did you see that sail boat almost get beached. they were rowing but the wind was sweeping them to the rocky shore. when they were about 30 feet away some boat rescued them. That was supposed to be my boats maiden voyage. Just redid the motor mound and after backing into water I realized I drilled a hole in the bottom of my boat. then threw out my back by falling while strapping onto trailor. Not a good day.

Yes that was a very bad storm. Lightning hit a beautiful water oak in my front yard. I hope it lives. I’ll be glad when the lake comes back up so I don’t have to deal with the drunks at the public landings. Two years ago on the fourth of july one drunk almost got a knuckle sandwitch at lake murray marina when he was pissing of the boat slip in front of my seven year old daughter. Didn’t bother to turn around or anything.

kloudking1

I feel bad for the kids too. Until they get old enough to start acting like their white trash parents that is. Then they get the same head shake that their old lady gets.

I didn’t get to see the sailboat but that sounds wild. My buddy’s wife got hit with a flying pinecone when the first gusts came by. Left some nasty cuts on her.

We were out on one of the islands and considered waiting the storm out there. We made it back to the landing right as the big gusts hit. We were glad we did too.

Is that the boat you were given steely? How did the repairs go?

Kloudking that sucks, the tree and the drunk. that launch is quite the circus on weekends.

Alabamafan, that is the boat. rebuilt the carb, replaced the starter, tune up, and the distributer was moved one gear off. Motor mount was completely rotten. replaced it with epoxy. The metal loop on the front that holds boat on trailor almost pulled thru, the manufacturer never put the plate on the inside, only bolts which almost pulled through. stringers were solid but wet, I think the foam is waterlogged. I might end up with a total gut and redo. Not sure if its worth it, but I will keep going. If for no other reason, experience.
