I’ve got a good “normal crew” that will always stay behind and help clean the boat, even if it’s midnight… For the most part people I’ve met on here have always been more than willing to chip in and help as well. It’s good to see everyone’s thoughts on it. Thanks guys.
Got a sign on the boat that says “This boat runs on gas not thanks”. Boat goes on the lift, if you can filet fish then go, if you can’t start cleaning. If you don’t want to do either, pay for your share and hit the road. Rarely do I have someone that won’t pitch in and do their share.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

“$1000 gas bill?!?!” Unfortunately, but also depends on where we are fishing - The boat eats fuel at about .8 mpg no matter the speed. When we’re high speeding it goes over that, but sometimes I can get out for $700-$800.

If you bolt without cleaning fish and cleaning the boat, you don’t get invited back.

If I split the cost of a trip using my boat and I take 5 crewmembers, I split the tab for fuel, ice, & bait 5 ways-the crew is responsible for bringing their own food and drink. I pay for the dockage, maintenance, taxes, insurance, and don’t expect to share those costs. I’ve never had anyone complain about this arrangement.
An unwritten rule is that if you don’t help wash the boat after getting back to the dock, then you shouldn’t expect another invitation.

Depending who comes I usually pay for most of it. My bro is good about paying for stuff though. He gets invited every trip lol.

Most overlooked aspect an offshore trip.
Cleaning fish, and then the boat, is as much a part of the trip as the fishing part.

I have been fortunate to have become friends with DGYF34 and have been out on his beautiful boat a couple of times. I had only ever been out offshore once before and paid my share. Dave refuses payment which is extremely nice of him. We do stay and help pull gear off the boat and help clean the boat but, I never feel like it is enough. He even divides up the catch. He is a really generous guy. I certainly understand boat owners expecting everyone pay their share and I would never have a problem doing so. I can only imagine what a day of offshore fishing costs and if it weren’t for invites, guys like me would seldom have the chance unless they booked a charter.

I would rather pay the whole fuel bill than have Dave scrutinizing my boat washing. I can only imagine especially since I rarely wash a boat…that’s what rain is for.

Hey now!
Gear, boat & trailer gets washed, repaired and screwtinized to minimize a chance of failure with them.
-one nice fish will make the day
-boat don’t paddle well toward the setting sun
-trailer failure @ speed no good (unless a GoPro records it)
The truck gets washed by the rain - it can only ruin your day alongside the road!
Nah, for a day on the water, I’ll wash and wax. I am the same way, even though my boat would fit in Dave’s, it gets washed and cleaned up after every trip. Its the only boat I have.

What a typical fuel burn for a 200 Yamaha 4stroke going say, 30-40 miles out? I was assuming something like 20-30 gallons? (9.9gph @ 33mph according to the performance bulletin). ~$4/gal that would be $80-$120 in fuel. (economical speed would be 5.5gph@23mph but I figured it would generally not be ‘ideal’)

the way I see it is I’m going fishing regardless ,if you come you bring something or don’t show. maybe help clean it after.

Figure at best 2 mpg so 20 gal out at about $80
Getting home…priceless.

As an avid offshore rider I always offer topay my fuel share, bring ice, bait, tackle and gear if requested.Always help clean/unload the boat and fish after a trip.If the boat is local I also make it a point to help load the boat the day before. The boat owner bears the brunt of the expenses owning said boat they should do the least amount of work towards a trip.
With us, everyone splits fuel/bait cost except for owner (he does not pay split of cost as he has more than enough cost with boat, tackle, dock fees, insurance, maintenance, etc.).
Don’t care if you help rig baits the day before, but everyone helps wash the boat after the trip.
Even split on fish, but boat gets an extra share (see above).
BYOB and lunch, everyone brings some water and snack foods.
Bonus if you bring biscuits in the morning for everyone.

I’ve got a pretty good crew, I can get them to pitch in bait, tackle etc. We always split the fuel $600. But it’s always funny when I ask a new guy and he says " heck yeah, I’ll even pay for the gas", oh ok. Lol That same guy is usually the one who also ask, “what time will we be back?”
Or better still how much longer are we gona ride before we fish! We burnt 200 gal?
