Patterns

i have definately seen them at the rock on clear h20 days. they look HUGE magnafied(sp) in the h20. always wanted to try for them just never have. usually red/poon fishing out there. sight casting w/ freeline fid’s?? sounds fun. thanks capt. fritz. i met you at brian berrigans party on the charlestonian a few years back. i think it was a christmas party. good fun. hope to see you around this summer at the rocks. any big reds yet?

johnny

sheepshead seem to be much pickier than reds on the flats, i usually see a small group working the edge of short grass, only caught 1 last year, see them on/around oyster beds on incoming tide, usually near deeper water, almost impossible to catch, keep casting at 'em and hope for a stupid one, they can also suck a fly in and spit it out w/o angler ever knowing anything went on, a fly with some crunch (epoxy) might get em to hold on a little longer

The CA carries a few different spoon flies but they don’t carry the “Dupree” spoon. I was talking to mike the guy who is responsible for purchasing their fly gear and he said that Dupree approached them about carring the fly but CA had to decline based on the fact that they can sell you a mylar spoon fly that works just as well for about a fraction of the price. Mike said that if they had choosen to carry them they would have cost about $8 a piece and that just seems silly. I have seen them in other fly shops down in Jacksonville, Fl near where I live for now and they cost about that, its rediculous.

Thats why they call it fishing, not catching

I would pay that and do for the Dupree (online) the action is much better than any others I have tried. I find they also cast much better IMHO, I second the Borski flies mentioned above, I have both his dvd’s that show you how to tie his patterns they are great and very productive flies.

IMHO?

the dupree spoon fly does catch fish, but ive found caves wobbler to be just as effective w/o many of duprees limitations: twisting and weakening of leader, expensive, weedguard not very durable, and worst of all, veering of course in air on way to tailing fish!! umpqua sells caves wobbler for 1/2 dupree cost. i have been experimenting for the past few years and have finally found a pattern that always works if presented properly i.e in front of non-spooked red. here is a pic of it. recipe will be[URL=http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa210/gtownkingfisher/fanfiddler002.jpg]

Let me know how you do with the spoon flies as all the ones sold at area stores which shall remain nameless are garbage. None of them are heavy enough. The only spoon fly I have found that really works is the dupree. Does anyone know where you can get them around here?
