I understand if you get on their dock to fish but I have ran into a few people who come out and gave me greef because I was sheapshead fishing and they thought I was tied up to their dock. One guy after he got his bad attitude out turned out to be a nice guy and explained why he doesnt like people fishing on or around his dock. He hates the fact that people leave hooks and fishing line on the dock beacuse he has grand kids going out there and would hate to see one of them get a hook in the foot or hand, understand that.
I can understand not wanting someone on your dock! How do you know they aren’t taking inventory of what’s there, so they can come back that night and steal it. How many times on this site have we seen posts about stuff being stolen from docks! We only see the thefts that are posted on CF! There has to be much more going down, we don’t read about! The way it is in todays world, if someone was to get hurt stealing the motor off your boat, you would be sued for insufficient lighting!

Theft, liability, property damage, trash, etc. Plus docks aren’t cheap and nobody builds one for strangers to use at will. Tbh most people would probably get permission if they asked but nobody does.
My personal issue with it is the fact that I don’t own a boat and have limited fishing grounds so it annoys me when someone in a boat crowds up on “my spot” when they have thousands of acres of marsh available to them. It’s rightfully annoying when they trespass while doing so.
My spot is a decent place to fish but there are many places that are much better and easy to access.

So I like the point about being worring about fisherman leaving hooks behind on your dock, But what to do? Don’t know about you, but sometimes my casts go off target, and the kids screw up too. Do you get out on the private dock to clean up your line and hooks? Or not, since you don’t want to trespass?
I would retrieve my lure and nothing else! I probably wouldn’t go looking for the dock owner, in a case where I could reach it! I would do it as fast as I could and try to not act, as if I was trying hide anything! Like running away, like these young men did! And then showing their ass’s, like they did! If your wrong, your wrong! Most people can respect that!
I have gotten out of my boat a few times (more than I wanted to) to retrieve a hook and line. Not because I cant afford hooks and sinkers but because I think its the right thing to do. I have also picked up what others left behind. Its like picking up your trash. I would hope the owner would appreciate someone doing that as long as thats all that was happening. But I would also understand if they get mad with me being on their dock.
Thank you Opps! Doing right is right!
I have gotten on many docks with out permission and have had friends pick me up from docks all over the place for convenience. If you are respectful and not being stupid or doing something deleterious to the dock, who cares?
Its tress passing
Local Boy, Just having fun.
one day they’ll do something wrong for real and pay for it - leave em be and keep that line in the water
Or else they will be on some ones private dock, get hurt and try to
sue the owner.

I think the just passed a law in SC where a trespasser can not sue the landowner if he is hurt while trespassing.
Bet the lawyers didn’t like that!!! Too many phony lawsuits
against folks now days.

Tresspassing… I think stoning is the appropriate punishment for this in most countries. If I have a fish on my line that gets wrapped around your pylon, should i let him die or help him survive?
Its like living on a golf course, every now and then an odd ball is going to visit…
Here you on that highcotton, and dont get pissed because I am a a****ty golfer and I hit my ball at your house, in your yard or busted your windshield of your car. I cant help I am a ****ty golfer you chose to live on the golfcourse
