Public Dove Fields

Been to ONE public dove field years ago, typical first and LAST TRIP

NEVER AGAIN

I think a lot of them have gone to draw hunts to limit the number of hunters

One I went to had more dogs that birds and when a bird did get shot, that was normally about 5 times too high, a dog fight would break out when 10 dogs tried to go get the same freaking bird

We left after a couple hours with lesson learned

Dodge 1500 4x4 HEMI

I hunted Donnelly opening day the 1st and Saturday the 8th. The 1st was fun. Very crowded, lots of shooting going on. I went with a group of 9 and we left early because it was so hot but I think we killed around 40(guestimate) between the group. Now I went back this past Saturday the 8th and there were a third or a fourth of the people there and less birds were flying and a lot less shooting. No one in my group of 4 even pulled the trigger. When we signed in, I believe the stats were ~800 birds killed on the 1st. When we signed out, (left around 5 because of rain) the highest number of birds next to peoples names was 2 or 3. I imagine some people who stayed through the rain killed more but it was very different from the opening day.

Wow. Good report. I wonder why the second hunt was so poor.

I was out that day also. Won’t give away where I was sitting on that field but I left at 1730 limited out with 33 shells. The birds started flying around 1430 where I was. I know of 3 other guys who limited out across from me also. Sept 1 was 198 hunters, 897 birds shot, 147 lost; a majority of the birds and hunters where shooting the Mary’s Island fields. No good supposedly this time around.

We do not rise to the occassion…but fall to the level of our training
