Everyone is missing the big picture here. I don’t care if these people are brown, black, or orange, laws are laws. These situations are whats wrong with this country. Everyone is so afraid of offending someone’s so called civil rights. If that was me and my daughter keeping illegal reds, I would get the book thrown at me. People need to start standing up to whats wrong. Protecting our fisheries starts with these people. They can do what they want and break laws because they don’t speak english??!? If we don’t tell them that this wrong and they don’t have to pay the consequences how are they going to learn. Thats like letting your dog continue to piss on the carpet. No, we rub their face in it.

Agree, these sound more like kids that are fishing for the hell of it. If you are low income in this country in this day, you get food stamps. Last I heard around 50 million people do. They definately aren’t starving and fishing for food. The laws and catch limits are no good if you look for excuses of why they dont apply to people.
Spot on Cracker!!Hit the guys making an impact!I have noticed that educated city dwellers(just the
'dogooders") have no respect for rural and remote lifestyles.
Folks if they are over 15 they are now required to have a license fishing from the bank. I never in my life thought bank fishermen would ever be required to have a license. One small step at a time.Just a question of time before something you love will disappear.

You ain’t no dummy. Use common sense. There are some people out there fishing for subsistence, they need it and the few undersized fish they catch aren’t going to hurt you or anyone else. You got any idea how many undersized fish one porpoise or shark eats in a day? A lot more than they catch. On the other hand, someone in a 40K flats boat who obviously ain’t ever missed a meal is another matter. I came across a couple of old black fellows a while back fishing in an odd spot and I asked them what they were catching. They had a bucket full of blackfish, none of them larger than 8". I bet they had 50 of them. I let it ride. I could tell they needed the fish and I’ll never miss a few blackfish. Just use common sense.
These marshes have been keeping a lot of people alive for a long time. That’s what they were put here for and I’ve took my share and more. Some people fish for sport, some to survive. Use your common sense to know the difference. If they are subsistence fishing, wish them luck and give them your extras, if they are taking advantage of it, I’d turn them in.

Difficult scenario… I’d recommend calling DNR and at least letting them know what/where you are seeing this. Part of me wants to say “The laws apply to everybody report them.” Part of me wants to say “They are just trying to put some food on the table” or “They could be robbing a deli for some food, instead of some harmless fishing”. At the end of the day like Cracker Larry said you should use your judgement to report an individual, but most likely anybody fishing from the shore keeping pinfish or an undersize red or 2 is not out to abuse the natural resource which is what I think the law is intended to protect.
Seems like a pretty easy call…breaking the law is breaking the law. But unfortunately I’d be hard pressed, like many others on here to call ogt on someone over a few fish when they are trying to put food on the table. I’ve made the call before (saw a group keeping undersized reds) what put me over the edge was the mess they were leaving as they moved up/down the beach. I can’t stand people leaving trash out…waterway, piers, islands, etc…if I see trash, I’ll pick it up…if I see someone leaving a mess,I’ll let them know about it. BTW…I called a dnr officer and he was there (breech inl) in an hour and wrote tickets and walked them back to the parking lot.
'a stranger is just a friend i havent met yet’jt
It’s the same in the Upstate when the DNR hatchery truck stocks trout. There are the so called ‘immigrants’ that ignore the limits because they know that they’ll basically get away with it. There’s no room in our jails for a game thief.
there is no excuse for keeping undersized fish, or fish that is out of season. laws are put in place to keep our waters thriving. if you cant follow that i believe more hefty fines should be in place or hell a night in the tank!. dont penalize those of of that do follow the rules, we keep what we are supposed to and thats that
Call the DNR. We follow the laws should anyone get a pass for any reason. Years back when I was stationed at Camp Lejeune I saw a lady with a whole bucket of small crab claws. I told her that wasnt legal and she played the I cant speak english and started giving me Sh#% in her native langauge. So I steped away and called the Camp Lejeune DNR. They told me they were on their way so I just waited for the satification of seeing he get the ticket.
A wise man once said “Do as I say not as I do” Good advice when I tell you that.
Our country is a claim that only the people who contribute to the system can make. If you don’t contribute and also violate the laws it’s a double wammy against the rest of us. Why should I feel sorry for you. I would like to think that if I were down on my luck I would still follow the law.
Toppy we have had to have a license on the hill for a few years now.

I had been noticing two guys crabbing off a local creek bridge for several months. They were from “off”, way off. One day I slowed down when they happened to be dumping the crabs into their bucket, and I saw what looked like many undersized crabs being taken. So I turned around and got my cell camera ready and got pix of them in action. Then I pulled my vehicle right up behind their parked car (nice new import sedan) and took pix of their license plate and then they walked up and I took pix of them, too. They left, quick; I tried to talk with them. It’s been a month now and they have never come back - - so they knew they were not legal. I will keep the pix, in case they start up again. I will also go tape a DNR ruler on the guard rail.

Ignorance of the law is not an excuse
I have been stopped twice this year and asked to show my license to DNR. Both times on road side flats where the man didn’t have to walk far. I have a fly rod in my hand and the camera guy… seems like DNR may be racially profiling the safe and easy.
one day I called the DNR with a problem…
ME “hello DNR I found some ***** people keeping under slot drum”
DNR “sorry sir all officers are busy in that area”
ME “they might be keeping baby poon and snook too”
DNR “where are you catching such species? sounds fun”
ME “hung up”
ALL GINKED UP
I would venture to say there is very little you can do without breaking some law…fortunately all the laws are not enforced, jails would not hold all of us.Actual law enforcement people dont even know all the laws. For example:
1.Is taking a leak in public illegal?? side of road or while fishing?
2.Is drinking a beer and driving a boat illegal??
3.5mph over the speed limit??
4.Telling a lie to federal officer?( i know that one is a 5 year felony)Ash Charles Sharpe(former Ag. Comissioner.)
5.Someome you live with scratches you. The law sees it they have to take that one to jail(no choice)
6. Dont spare the rod on a difficult child?
7.sex outside wedlock(adultery)
We have way way too many complicated laws,
Sorry but ignorance of the laws is common.
