Rod holder for truck bed

That is a slick looking setup. I needed something different due to the bed cover I have. I haven’t seen anything commercially available that would work with my truck.

I was laying down in the back of a Yukon on the way back from a fishing trip in the Keys. We had every kind of rod imaginable in the trailer behind us. I was staying in the car while the guys picked up a few subs for lunch…heard a noise and looked behind me. Two guys had grabbed a handful of spinners, 20s, 30s, etc and were about to make a dash for it.

I jumped out of the car and grabbed the short Aftco, their eyes about popped out of their heads and they took off running (and dropping my rods & gear)…if I hadn’t been in that car it would have been bad…

They had staked out the car and thought everyone in the car had gone inside, didn’t see me bc I was laying down.

It happens all the time when guys stop to get breakfast at Ihop or some other place. Now that fishing has picked up watch out for your stuff if you park.

We don’t really stop anywhere for any length of time anyway. But when we stop, someone always stays with the truck. It’s a shame the world has become this way.

Here is my low tech, low dollar solution…

For security I use a 6’ length of plastic coated steel cable with an eye on each end. Attach one end to a tie down in the bed and run the cable through all the reel frames, then padlock it to the tie down on the other side. I wouldn’t leave it overnight in a motel parking lot, but it’s plenty secure for a trip into a store or restaurant.
