INSHORE rookie!!! 100% of my experience is offshore! Trolling, spearing, bottom fishing has been my thing. Heck, I’ve even caught a redfish before, but it was out in 60’ of water. Even when I was younger, my dad had a 19’ Bayliner CC with a Force 125 on it and we were king fishing and headed out to the ledge with Loran and a bottom finder that took rolls of paper! Caught my first sailfish at 9 years old. Back then, nobody released them. Dried that sucker out and weighed him in the trident!
</font id=“quote”></blockquote id=“quote”>OK. That explains it. Inshore Rookie. I did not mean to put you down. Just curious.
Yep, Dad and I fished years ago with no loran. One day when the fog socked in thick, we had to pull up to the beach and ask a lady walking her dog where we were. Then we wemt to loran A, then C. One of the early lorans would work fine going out, then woulld not lock in. Dad sent a letter along with the unit back to the manufacturer telling them: “This thing could not find its azz with both hands if it had any!”. He got a new unit that worked!
We had an expensive paper Sitex depth finder that was fantastic for its day. We used to do a good bit of bottom fishing, but did not have the range to get past about 150ft. Back then, 6HI off Fripp had awesome bottomfishing. The General Gordon had not yet been “found”. There was no Betsy Ross reef.
I imagine you will find the inshore fishing much more challenging than the offshore. I have a buddy that fished offshore for years. He has no patience inshore. He thinks you are supposed to fill the cooler in the first hour! Sou

Definitely get the quick detach mount for the trolling motor they’re worth every penny. I got he minn Kota plug for mine and its worked great but the battery tender plug seems to have the best reviews.
I’d say go for the poling platform even if you’re not using it all the time it comes in handy for many other things.
Keep an eye on the sky guy’s! Cupka may be flying a drone overhead keeping count.
Probably be sitting back in his beanbag eatin Cheetos watching y’all on the big screen:sunglasses:!

If you’re fishing for inshore (reds, flounder, trout, etc.) then you don’t need a polling platform. However, it does help to get something (yeti) to stand on and cast from. It takes some time to learn to pole properly and the wind here makes it challenging. Stay w/Minn Kota (a 55 would do, but a 70 would do better), it’s a must. Don’t waste money on an expensive chartplotter, get to know the water and where you catch them at certain times (incoming/outgoing tides) but make sure you have a depthfinder. Hope you get on em.
I’m gonna go ahead and vote for nixing the platform.
-
you don’t need it, youre high enough.
-
it puts weight on the worst place and fouls up the performance - at least it did in my case on a much smaller skiff.
-
that hull will not pole well - IMO. i have a J14. i couldn’t rip the platform off fast enough.
-
if you’re like me, you’ll fish alone alot. you won’t use it when you’re alone except to make sandwiches and set beer on.
there’s other reasons too, but I can’t remember em

Mine would fish a lot more if we had the time. My 19 year old is at CofC but without wheels so, he is relegated to any place he can walk to. I am sure there are may folks down there that would love to fish with the Pod.

Beer and Tang! I’ll bet the Astronauts didn’t have any Beer, to mix in their Tang[:0] How did you get the fish smell off that platform:question:

Would PeaPod be interested in making that trip? If so, I’ll see what I can do. I know a guy…

I’m just an all around saltwater rookie. I’ve been taking my boat out a few times a year for the last 5 years or so. I’m probably hands down the worst fisherman on this forum. Just this spring I was smack dab in the middle of a school of 500 red fish and I couldn’t get them to bite to save my life! But I enjoy trying and the budlight. I love my 17’ Carolina skiff. Last year I went out of breach inlet to the jetties in it, I opened up the Yamaha 90 and let her eat. Bad idea on a flat bottom skiff. I just wanted to see what it was like and now I know. Hope you enjoy yours!

I’ve been there more than once. That’s why we keep coming back and trying again.

No polling platform… I’m scared of heights and have a horrible sense of balance… I was just wondering about getting a push pole to use from the deck.
I thought I’d use the pole. I didn’t.
