SAFMC Meeting

I don’t understand where they get their info from on the ACL. I for one have never been surveyed! and have never known anyone to be surveyed. Are they just pulling numbers out of the air? the black sea bass fishery is healthier than ever with more and larger fish. They just keep taking and taking and will eventually turn us into criminals for trying to catch fish! Totally riduculous!

Mark,

So glad to hear you are coninuing to fight on our behalf. I certainly hope you are nomination to the advisery panel!!

Chas’n born, Chas’n raised!

I attended a couple of meetings and felt like it was just big govt. procedure…let the common folk feel like they have a voice. The so called experts had volumes of “data” on C-Bass and “know” that they are endangered.

Do they also study the effects of letting C-Bass populations explode. How many juvenile fish of the bottom fish complex do they eat every day?

It sounds like the top guys like Cupka must go. We should all email the gov. and make our voice known. If we “squeek” enough maybe there will be some action.

Surrounding the State House may be the best bet if inaction continues.

Just a note guys, Nikki Haley has a place you can post your comments about things, and I have personally written her on gun issues, she is quick to respond with a real hand signed letter in the mail. Seriously send her a comment about your feelings. And be nice, she will do the same, i have proof.

Are We There Yet?

congrats Capt. Mark at least now we can have someone on our side. Thank you!

I emailed the gov and begged her not to put cupka back on. Weeks after the dirty deed was done I got form letter reply, blah, blah, blah. Until I see the gov do something proactive for us I"m going to look for someone else in 2014.

CONGRATS! Capt Mark.I know you will bring reason and pragmatism to this process. It was good to see and talk to you @ the meeting Wed and enjoyed your comments.Everyone who has been on the Teaser2 knows that you are the best btm fishing capt around.

Mark has invested a ton of time and energy into helping save our fishing rights and I admire you for your dedication and persistence. These laws are very confusing and I think probably purposefully to keep your average angler from being able to keep up and understand. Mark I hope that you can continue to make a difference and bring some real common sense to this process. Thank you,

Good going Mark, now we know there is at least one person on the board who truly understands the actual fishery in real time! Thanks again for all you do for us.

Our tradition is that of the first man who sneaked away to the creek when the tribe did not really need fish.

Thank-You CAPT.Mark and congrats and good luck,

I suggest we start a petition to remove Cupka. This should be addressed to the legislature and the governor.

Next I think we should look at segmenting the SAFMC coverage. While Red Snapper may be overfished in Florida and perhaps NC, it is probably not in GA or SC due to the long runs we have to make. Somehow the regs must be applicable to the specific areas covered. Blanket regs do no one any good. JMHO:sunglasses:

I like your thinking. Couldn't agree more. I don't even think it's all of Florida. I would be willing to bet that more of the problems are in South Florida and the Keys. I have little doubt that overfishing is happening down there. Even the mentality of the typical fisherman is different down there.

red snapper are not native to south fl and the keys…muttons are the native snapper there

Understood. I live in South Florida... I'm talking about overfishing in general. I don't believe that red snapper have been overfished in over a decade. I just think that real fishing pressure starts to amass once you get around Jupiter and South where the continental shelf is squeezed in pretty tight.

But my original point was not to say that red snapper are overfished in Florida. My point was that North Florida probably needs to be treated differently than South Florida.

Totally agree and to include any south Florida red snapper data in a stock assessment is bs
