SAFMC update from Tom Swatzel

Fair enough, I probably shouldn’t have said republican or democrat but I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch to say that the current Democratic party trends liberal and the Republican party conservative. Just pointing out that aggressive invasions of privacy are not necessarily a liberal concept.

No doubt that the democratic party adopts the idea of "liberalism" more than the republican party, but as you pointed out with W, the republican party can be pretty liberal some times as well.. Heck, I wonder what the "republicans" of 1776 would think about the republicans of today...

But yes, aggressive invasions of privacy ARE a liberal concept. It doesn’t mean one has to consider themselves a “liberal” to do something that exemplifies liberalism… There are many GOOD people who do something BAD once in a while… That doesn’t mean that they are BAD people.

W signed the MSA reautherazation into law.

What does that have to do with anything? Are you suggesting that "W" had a FULL UNDERSTANDING of the bill and what the fallout implications would be? I highly doubt it... Chances are, he was just asked to sign a bill by a trusted advisor with the best intent...

If I recall, it was the CCA who wrote this bill. I seriously even doubt that the guy at the CCA who wrote the bill had the foresight of the red snapper closure or a few key SAFMC’s “influencers” intent to close off the ocean from 90’ out deeper…

Even the guys who wrote the ORIGINAL MSA are complaining about what it has turned into. The ORIGINAL MSA was much more geared at closing off fishing to FOREIGN vessels. They had no intent of it becoming the dirty word it is today…

I’m saying that a repulican signed it into law. That is all I’m saying. Nothing more…nothing less. They are all dumba$$es IMO.

Are there any lawyer’s on here, wouldn’t a VMS be unconstitutional under the ‘right to privacy’ 14th amendment, also unreasonable search w/o due process.

Let’s go fishin

Vermilion Snapper

The ACL increase could result in removing the recreational season closure for vermilion and/or increasing the bag limit. It is important to note that for the last two years recreational landings of vermilion have fallen well short of the ACL. Just 64 percent of the recreational ACL was landed in 2011 and 84 percent in 2010.

So…If they take away quota because we “overfished”, will they add the extra weight to this years quota? Looks like an extra 52% to me.

Until you get the Eco-Nutjob David Cupka off the board (thanks Nikki!)…NOTHING will fall toward the way of the fishermen. Don’t forget, he wanted a complete closure from 90’-240’!! How much money have the local busineses lost because of the foolish Black Sea Bass closure? Drive past any landing on a calm day between now and April and look at all the empty parking spaces! Any fisheries biologist that says they (BSB’s)are overfished is blind or politicaly driven. Keep sending E-mails to Tim Scott…He is on our side!

I know, Nikki really screwed the pooch with that one.
I will say that I have finally come to the realization that the two party system is doing nothing more than good cop/bad cop to us.

PS: Screw David Cupka. In the ear. With something large and pink full of knobby bits. Bastard.

Umm, you gonna eat that?

Thousands have died to save my freedom. Only one has died t

The term “liberal” is totally misplaced. Liberal would to be tolerant of all other ideas and ideologies. This is NOT liberal. This is “socialist”, and more towards “Fascism”. Other view points and opinions are forbidden and NOT tolerated. It is the socialist way or no way. We need to understand who and what we (the american people) are up against.

Why not let the fishermen who depend on these fish determine the # of catches per person/boat be the limit? Why would you overfish a species that you make a living catching? Hunters took the restocking of the wild turkey into there own hands (NWTF) and turkey populations are at all time highs while the “conservationist” took over the California condor and they have how many…8 or so…I think its clear who really cares about our natural resources and it isnt the people in office it’s the people out there using/enjoying them…just my 2 cents

I think the problem you run into with this is that unlike with the wild turkey, you have two bodies of people involved with these fish. One group literally “relies” on the catching fish to make a living while the other group is recreational. One group is making money while another group is spending money. I believe this severely complicates the process of turning it over to the people…

Do not tell fish stories where the people know you; but particularly, don’t tell them where they know the fish.

But to be put out of business over the bogus data that the SAFMC uses is just wrong! They are going to come out next year and say that due to their restrictions…The Blackfish are thriving! They will take the credit for what every fisherman already knows…Black Sea Bass Stocks are the best they have ever been! You can’t get a bait to any triggers in 100’-120’ for all of the 3-5 lb blackfish. Keeper BSB’s are in the Cooper river! The cost of fuel, the loss of local headboats, and commercial boats along with the results of 20 years of MSA have strengthened these populations to all new highs. ANYONE (David Cupka) that thinks that there is a shortage of BSB’s is either a fool or a liar!..rant over for now!
