I’ve always stayed away from anything with treble hooks when striper fishing from the kayak. How do you unhook them? Seems like it would be tough to do…especially if they were to wind up with 2 sets in them.

As far as the treble hooks go, I unhook them VERY carefully lol. I’m gonna stay away from trebles also. In addition to being hazardous on a kayak they also seem to do more damage to the fish also. I rarely keep any of the fish I catch and love seeing them swim off strong.
You can park at carolina outdoors or w/e it’s called on Candi Lane but it’s 5 dollars to park. Sucks paying 5 dollars but you can start below Mills Race Rapids and the zoo is right there. Takes a ton of paddling out of the equation. I’m going out Saturday if anyone wants to meet up to do some fishing.

Thanks svdrumline90, I had forgot about GYGO parking. Last year I got away with parking on Candi Lane, but that luck won’t last forever. I’ll be fishing upriver from the zoo Sat., otherwise I’d meet up with you. Good luck.

That must be the day Canoeing For Kids is doing their annual rafting fundraiser. I know it’s always around Mothers Day.
If so, it is a great time. Guided raft trips similar to what you would find upstate, only right here in our own back yard. SCE&G opens the flood gates for the day and you float from just above I20 to Gervais.
Definately worth looking into if you have never done it.

I know of a 25/30 pounder released from a kayak in the past week or so. Big stickbait like a Smithwick.
