Sea Hunt vs Sportsman

The Sportsman Boat Co is owned by two individuals. One of the Hancock brothers that used to own SeaPro and one of the original owners of Key West.
As far as the local Sea Hunt dealer in W. Cola I’d rather do without a boat than buy there and an old college buddy is one of the sales guys. I tried to buy a camo duck boat from them and they won’t even get out of there chairs to sell a jon boat. Very arrogant folks.

Ya’ll need to call Boat Shed in Georgetown. I can gurantee you Brian will take the time to answer any of you questions, give you a straight up honest assessment and find out anything he doesn’t already know about his products. They are a Pioneer and Key West dealer.

Tailwalker in Georgetown is handling the Sportsman line as well as Cobia, GW, Contender and a couple of others I think.

Cape Romain/ PI Marine is handling Tidewater and Scout, I’m sure Richard would talk to you as well.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

For seahunt, call Seel’s in West Ashley. Every time I have been in there I have been happy.

If you can’t stand behind our soldiers, try standing in front of them.

If you want to save a bunch of money look up north. At least on Sea Hunt.

You should look at Pioneer.

Not sure why you think they were making a push then fell off the map. They lost a lot of dealers when the economy tanked- just like everyone else. They had to buy boats back from dealers who couldn’t pay the the floor plan notes any more, and that also was just after Pioneer moved from a tiny facility into a huge one. So they continued to spend the resources they had on actual production and materials rather than advertising.

I will say it one more time. You really should look at Pioneer. If you have owned various boats and been unhappy, then the Pioneer is something that will at least leave a lasting impression on you. They are a bit different from other production boats, but you have to look close and actually USE the boat for it to matter. Otherwise, they all look about the same 50ft away.

The Sportsman boats look like a cross between a Scout and Sea Pro to me. Not my thing, but I will not get into why because I know those boats are a lot of other peoples’ thing and a lot of those brands are/were built and sold. The boats are quite different. Doesn’t mean better or worse. Means they have different qualities that folks prioritize differently. Otherwise there would have been a company who built one boat that everyone loved.

I have nothing against Pioneer boats at all. I just havent heard anything about them in a while. I looked at their website the other day and I am just not sure that they are layed out the way that I would like. There are several options on the Sea Hunt that I like that I don’t really see but I havent actually tried and talked to anybody there so I dont really know. I will probably look into them further about it.
I can promise you that I will not be buying a Sea Hunt from up in the Columbia area from the dealership close to me.

May I suggest you call Kenny at Seels in Mt Pleasant?
His # is 843-849-8788.
I am sure you will get a good reception!!

We used Seels for years, have bought 3 boats there. However, if you are buying new you really need to call the NC and VA dealers (names are on the web fairly often). I just bought a 23 Ultra and saved $9.5K by driving 4 hours. I tried to get the local guys to negotiate something close as I wanted to keep the money in town / in state, but they would not budge.
My 2 cents worth - this and $1.50 will get you a cup of coffee in some places.

Talking with the local dealers is a waste. I tried last year and they were the highest in the southeast. I’d like to keep the money local but I’d like to keep it in my pocket even more.

It seems strange too. I figure you could get a Sea Hunt cheaper when you are close to the plant but the columbia dealer was the highest then seels.

Go to NC or VA.

Talk to Al at the West Ashley store, not Kenny in Mt Pleasant unless you want to get raped on price…

Boatless

Thanks for the advice everyone. I saw on some other posts where a fella was talking about how much he paid for a boat and it seemed about $10k less than what the dealership up in my area had it advertised for. I knew that my dealer wouldn’t drop that much off the price cause they make it out to be a huge deal to drop $200 off the price. I will look elsewhere especially when we are talking about that sort of money to save.

For a Sea Hunt, call David Perry owner of Marine Service Center in Murrells Inlet at 843-650-2628. He’s a great guy and will see that you’re treated right, at the dealership and by Sea Hunt.

If it is in stock, you might be suprised to see what they’ll do considering the model year just changed. Also, no dealer wants a product to sit on their lot considering the interest they pay and the sales quota they have to meet. Heck, I’d offer 25% less than they are asking and go from there and fully expect to agree at 10-15% less than the asking price. If they aren’t willing to start negotiations and get to a price you’re willing to pay, then move on. I’ve been doing a lot of shopping, looking and research and there seems to be a pretty good margin on boats, its up to you to negotiate the deal though.

I’ve tried to negotiate with my dealership up here with a boat that was on the lot that was a model year going out before and they were set on not going lower than their advertised price, which was OK but not great
