Bonine is the ticket!!! I was going off shore in my own bote and it was the “first comes lungs, second comes kidneys show!” It was fing miserable. Tried dramamine, didnt work. Tried Scopalamine, it worked better, but I was like a fing zombie. So lethargic and no fun at all.
I take two bonine about 10 mins before we put in. I chew them up and swallow them WITHOUT water or food. This way, I am not “diluting” the drug with water or food, and it works like a champ! By the time we hit the jetties on the way out, I start drinking water. I found myself eating like crazy and drinking like crazy out there, which obviously prevents dehydration.
Took my 13 yr old son out Memorial Day for his first trip. He is only 85lbs, so I was a bit concerned about the bonine for him. I only gave him one, and he had a blast. No side affects or anything.
Zofran not good for prevention, only treatment after the fact. Still nice to have some on hand. Bonine and Scop are the best of the bunch for prevention (don’t put you to sleep, etc.), with the latter indicated for those who don’t find relief from Bonine.
It was a little bumpy, but all went well. I gave him Dramamine the night before and the morning of- everything was fine until about 15 minutes from the hole he says his stomach hurts. He gets up and is walking around the boat looking a little rough and I’m trying to figure out how many dead presidents it’s going to take to get the boat to go back…
Then a line goes off. They hand him the rod and he reels in the first fish of the day and his first offshore fish ever. Smiling ear to ear, sickness is gone and he sat in the fighting chair until we pulled back into the dock.
Ended up catching 12 dolphin, 1 bonita, 1 amberjack and a suckerfish. Had one nice blue knock down a few lines as well.
