Maybe you can just barter four hours worth of neurosurgery in exchange for your next charter to the grillage?

Hah ha! I would consider 1/2 of a successful brain surgery for a 1/2 day fishing charter… I guarantee that at least one of us will have a life changing experience.
No salt, no fun.
RBF now needs another lobotomy after reading just 1/8 of this thread…

My wife is an MRI and CT technologist. She has worked for a group of 10 neurosurgeons for over 30 years, so I’ve had a lot of interaction with them by necessity over the years. Put all 10 together in a boat and I doubt they could catch a fish between them without guidance, and they would be likely to sink the boat. I wouldn’t want anybody else but them working on my head or spine though. I pay them to fix me, they pay me to catch fish. Everybody knows how to do something.

This is possibly the rudest statement i have read on this website
It’s not like you have to pay it. It is a luxury. I think a lot of doctors are overpaid, but we don’t have a choice in that, now do we? It’s ok to be tight, but it isn’t ok to offend another man’s profession if it is a respectable one. I’m just going to have to disagree with you on even questioning the price. Yoeur statement shows that you definitely know nothing about what goes into preparing for a trip. To me, $400 is a more than fair price for a person with the knowledge and right equipment to take someone out on their vessel for one half day in an attempt to catch fish. When tides, wind, currents and all that is factored in, the Captain should probably charge more if the trip is successful!
My thought is if you do not want to pay the price, then dont, if you do , then pay and have fun, this is not rocket science guys, no one is twisting arms , people will pay for what they want, if you dont want a guide then go learn on your own, if you want to learn where to catch fish then hire one ,
thanks
Some People Create Their Own Storms And Then Cry When It Rains!
Our swimming pool got struck by lightning 2 weeks ago, about blew it out of the ground. It’s a big scoundrel, or it was, above ground 28’X 14’ pool with a 40’ X 20’ deck built around it. It was 20 years old and in bad shape anyway and needed to go. It took me 2 months to build it, 20 years ago. I figured it would take me 3 months to pull it all out now, haul it off and fill the hole. In 100 degree temps. Not going to happen. Time for a pro.
I hired a guy off Craig’s List with an excavator and dump truck, who told me he could make it all disappear in a day for $100 an hour. I was doubtful, but said do it. And he did!
He sure ain’t no brain surgeon and might not could catch a fish in a bucket, but it was a check I was happy to write:smiley: Everybody is good at something, and this man can run an excavator. He did more work in a day than I could possibly do myself in 3 months.
One man, one day, $1280 including dump fees and 4 truck loads of dirt
If you want a pro, pay for it. Money well spent IMO. Like I said, he did more work in a day than I could possibly do in 3 months. A good fishing guide is the same. He
One guy did that in a day? Dang i consider myself productive if i get my coffee brewing before i go to the bathroom in the morning
Dang Larry, where is the dog going to swim now?
“Apathy is the Glove into Which Evil Slips It’s Hand”, but really, who cares?
Dog is not pleased, Doug. He’s used to swimming about twice an hour. We’re getting some prices for a small in-ground pool for him. You know dog is spoiled when you have to buy him a swimming pool:smiley:

Yes! I was amazed I doubt he spent 4 hours on the excavator, rest of the time was spent hauling off the trash and hauling in dirt.

A client I recently built a boat for regularly hires a guide at Clarks Hill lake for striper fishing. He told me they pay $400 for a half day trip and usually limit out in one hour. Once they have the limit, the trip is over and they come in. No catch and release, no sight seeing, catch a fast limit and go home. No way I’d pay for that!

Swamp WorshiperWell it would depend on if the client wants to fish or go sightseeing? After two hours of catching striper you got a good set of sore arms!

By no means am i a guide but i have been fishing the water around Charleston my whole life.
If your really catching fish, and i mean REALLY catching fish, like most of the guides we see out there on the weekend, your putting your boat through alot.
Skip Fuel, skip beer, water, snack etc. - adds up itself.
But getting to what really add’s up.
Wear and tear on the boat - constantly people fishing on your boat that have no idea what they are doing hopping around in there black sole shoes, making a mess everytime they catch something.
Maintenance - if you own anything with a motor you know this add’s up.
Gear - going back to point one - bunch of people that have no idea what they are doing using your nice gear.
And the final kicker and most important point. Your putting on a show for those people making sure they are entertained whether you are putting fish in the boat or not.
Most people out there will rent a bike on vacation for 100$ but wont pay 400$ for some good fishing in an area you know nothing about.
Look at where Jesus went to pick people. He didn’t go to the colleges; he got guys off the fishing docks.
cl, when’s the house re-warming party?
me and Easy can only stay a few weeks.
I think the $350 to $400 is a fair price. It is an agreeded price so I do not tip. No one tips me when I do engineering work. I tell them it will cost xxxx $'s and that is what my bill says and what I get paid.
That said, I have been out with guides in both Savannah and Beaufort. Some are real foul mouth jerks. Some are clean freaks that put a towel down to wipe my feet on before entering the boat. Some don’t provide any live bait. But some are the nicest guys, have great boats, fresh bait, don’t sit ont he same non producing spot for an hour, and clean my fish if I want.
Two guides I recommend as the absolute best are Danny Rourke in Beaufort, and Jack McGowan in Savannah. Both are nice guys, good equipment, put you on the fish, and fun to hang out with.
