Sheepshead

I hear ya Hurricane! But between work, weather, weddings, etc I have been a grand total of once this winter…and I owed a couple of the younger guys here at work a trip first and foremost for those guys doing such a great job for us day in day out…I will let ya know if I am able to break out one more time

I have always used the offset style and have caught many sheepshead… but if you are talking to Scott or Dee, they are definitely the go to guys on this subject. Dee has taught me more over the years than anyone.

I got ya, I need to stop in, have been busy myself

Bragging may not bring happiness,
but no man having caught a large fish,
goes home through the alley.

Sheep bite has slowed some with all the winds and rains. Still catching some but not the numbers we were getting a week or so ago. Yesterday, they only wanted live shrimp, did have afew bites on fiddlers but no hook ups

The circle hook rule still applies. The change in regulations was postponed due to yet another round of public hearings. Perhaps after this week SAFMC meeting in Savannah the transition and removal of sheepshead and other species from the snapper grouper complex will go into effect. Stay tuned !!!

There was an article in a recent sportfishing magazine about using oysters and clams for bait. These guys suggested wrapping the oyster or clam in a small piece of cheesecloth before putting them on the hook. The cheesecloth kept the oysters on the hook and did not affect the bite…just kept the bait on the hook longer. I’ve never tried it but it seems like a good idea to try if you use oysters for sheeps. They were bottom fishing up north somewhere in deep water and caught a ton of fish.
