I would not say “no military signifigance” A lot of people do not even know what is still on this base.

While I do agree that they probably have sensitive things that need protecting on the weapons station, there are several areas that are posted that I don’t see the need to have posted anymore. We got ran off for fishing the bridge over Goose Creek because “they need to keep the channel open for subs and ships to come through”. That’s complete horse hockey. No ship or sub is getting through that narrow channel or under that low fixed span bridge. Another area still posted is around the mooring pilings they used to tie ships up in Yellow House. When’s the last time you’ve seen a ship moored there.

My gripe is that these areas are posted when they no longer need to be. It’s just because they haven’t bothered to modify them to reflect the current use of the areas. Typical government mode of operation.

You can fish both of those areas, if they tell you otherwise ask for the written information showing you cannot. That was changed sometime ago but they still enforce the areas so they have something to do…

Well the nice lady with the 50 cal. pointed in my face went through the trouble of taking down my social security number and all sorts of other information and told me that the next time we were caught there the least of our worries would be the $200.00 ticket. If you’re allowed to fish there then why are the signs still up? I’m specifically talking about the first bridge that you get to going up Goose Creek.

There is a full thread on the restricted areas around NWS.
You are not allowed to fish there.

IIRC one of the restricted areas is a 7 mile radius around the piers.
I’m happy they only enforce the areas they do.

Correct, but I’d bet you’d be a lot happier if they would quit enforcing areas that don’t need to be enforced any longer.

Bellyup, you asked about boat doing pretty well at jetties. Not sure but think it was more green than tan? Fishing top of tide and first of incoming.

You haven’t truly fished Charleston until you’ve had a 50 cal pointed at you… FACT
