I hear he makes the best poles around. will be willing to pick up poles for others…just help out with gas. and please arrange payments with him. I live in MT Pleasant, so I can meet somewhere here to deliver. if anyone is interested, shoot me a message!

I just bought a set from mike at bj graphics in newberry , they are nice polls with tape already on them points installed and caps on top, they were 160 bucks for a set of 15 foot long. good quality and realy nice guy to deal with.

BJ is the man. Got a set last year that were sitting in the back because they were
Volunteer orange instead of Clemson orange. Think I saved about fifty bucks. 16 footers capped, pointed and taped.

I just bought a set of fiberglass poles from Dale Steverson in Columbia. I have made my own for the past few years but decided to invest in a more durable set and can’t wait to use them. Dale was very nice and easy to work with. He worked with me on pick-up/delivery of the poles.

goin with my brother for first time can bamboo still be used ? like pvc or conduit off bottom.

never mine self answered not more than 1’’ across top saw on dnr website they got diagram on how to do it too.

Jeezz…what’s the reasoning behind a 1 inch size on the tips of shrimp poles. ?? For someone that goes 2 maybe 3 times a yr. Bamboo is fine.

With you on the size limit RED!? What is the big deal? Maybe a DNR guy can relate.

Used bamboo for about 3 years. Works Great if you cut a good point on the end you poke in the surf and sand down the eyes where you remove the leaves. And if you lose one it doesn’t hurt the wallet.
Checked by DNR a couple times and the only thing said about the bamboo poles was “Cheaper than Fiberglass.” I’m sure if the pole tip is close to 1 inch nothing will be said.

“No more than 10 poles can be used per license per day. Poles must be marked with reflective tape and may not exceed 1-inch in diameter and each pole must have a numbered tag attached which corresponds with the shrimp baiting license.”

Bought a set from Dale Steverson. I was skeptical at first about the stiffness of fiberglass poles, having used 3/4" emt with 5’ of 3/4" pvc added to the top in the past. The poles I received from Dale without any doubt will work great. He met me 5 miles from my house on his way to deliver poles to a store in Charleston, not mentioning any names but they charge way more than I paid him. He even cut a pole in half for me, put a point and cap on both 7’ sections. I added a eye bolt to the top to tie a rope, wanting to see if they would work for a shallow water anchor. I used the 7’ poles last Sunday and they held my boat, a 20’ wareagle against the tide and wind in St. Helena sound with no problem. Beats paying $85 for a stick it anchor pole. He was a great guy to meet and I highly recommend him if you are wanting a set of poles.
