Slip corks?

Great Thread here .

Questions,

Wonder how this would work offshore bottomm fishing? , anchoring or on the drift.
Say your in 100’, set float at 80’ avoid all the BSB and Smaller fish in hopes of Mr Grouper w Live Bait, obviously weight and cork size would have to be beefed up, any thoughts ?

Also I have had problems getting one bead to work on top of cork, due to the Braid mainline I have been using two beads of different sizes to get the slip knot to actually stop.

Rubber band seems a great way, I’ve been using the pre tied ones btw.

Anybody know the concept for the small plastic clear corks, sure would be hard to see.

I’ve also used slip corks slow trolling live bait , and soft plastics on Stripers and Trout.

The small clear floats are used by trout fishermen using flies on rod and reels. Adds weight so you can cast the fly and is clear supposedly not to spook the fish.

Great subject. I have been fishing with sliding corks for over 50 years. Great way to locate fish. Fish structure without hanging up. And doing what you are supposed to do when fishing (RELAXING). Almost nothing more exciting than to see that cork disappear like a shot.

I have a question about using the slip float method. When using braid on the reel, will the smaller diameter line hold the rubber band or little slip knot? I am wondering if I need to splice 20’ or 30 feet of mono to my braid.

I am really looking forward to trying this method.

Goob,
I too use braid (15Lb.) and have problems with the slip knot sliding on the braid. I tied on about 20’ of 20lb. mono and it has been working fine.
Recently I have tried the rubber band tied with an overhand knot to the braid. The rubber band has not been a problem sliding on the braid but my stopper bead and the cork will sometimes slide over the rubber band. I guess I need a bead with a smaller hole.

Take two pair of pliers and pull the bobber stop as tight as possible , trim the excess line. Find a bead with a small enough hole not to slide over the bobber stop. I found an old string beaded necklace at the flea market and pulled the beads off and used.

Use one of these: http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Danielson_Rubber_Bobber_Stops_10pk/descpage-DANBOBR.html

Hey Dinnertime… I’ve used a white thread to mark off 80’ then clip on a small balloon with a snap clip. Works for stripers too!
