had 2 disappear from Orange Grove Creek about a week and half ago… 1 still around though So I know DNR didnt take them. About 2 days after 10+ orange commercial buoys showed up. Weird.

FriedDOA, I never said all I do is sit around and tie knots. But it is definitely part of my job. And we do train to stay proficient. Also, when I said, “locals”, it’s not my fault if you took that the wrong way, but there are definitely several people that seem to always be there. I hadn’t thought about the DNR aspect of it, I had read online about having a buoy and your name/phone number on it, but didn’t know if that was required if it is hanging from a bridge where boats don’t travel. Oh well, I’ll just look at this as a learning experience.

If it’s the bridge between St. Thomas Island and Daniel island near Blackbaud; your right. The locals got it. The docks near the boat landings are more secure and have many crabs.

Tyoneon, I learned to not leave my items that I paid hard earned cash for, in a place where people can steal them because they don’t feel like working to have anything of their own. And Chris, thanks, I’ll give the docks you mentioned a try.
Call me crazy but I am pretty sure it is against the law to leave unattended items hanging from public bridges that pass over areas were boaters, kayakers etc can be untangled. I know you can use the drop nets that you lower and raise every 15 mins or so while you fish, but as far as tossing over a whole trap weighed down and left over night or aunatteneded for a period of time . . . ??? Seems a bit unsafe, I’d hate to be heading out gigging and roll into that rope. Any how its kinda of no brainer, unfortunatly in our society leaving personal belongings out in publlic for others to mess with has not been a good idea since the dawn of time.
If I had left my fishing rods overnight on my own dock “which I would have to be pretty drunk to forget” and they were stolen by a boater I would be pissed, however if I had them taken out of the back of my truck in walmarts parking lot, or if I decided one day to leave a rod at a public pier overnight to let my bait really soak and it was taken i would probably be to ashamed to even complain. Would think in the same terms for a crab trap.
I am sure you were thinking hey my trap will be safe hanging off this public bride, anyone who might happen upon it to fish or crab will surely leave it alone since all hunters and fishers look out for each others things and have a mutual respect. AFRAID NOT!! And then throw in the random folks just driving by. . Suprised this was the first time.
I have learned in this game “fish/hunting” that it is better for me, my wallet, temper, and others to just always do everything I can to make sure my things and strangeres dont cross paths.

Not to mention, be glad all your info was not on it. If the wrong person happens to motor through texting and not see it, or comes through at night and god forbid it causes injury or damage to they boat, pretty sure with any half wit lawyer your crab pot would be the last thing you were concerned about them having.

JIHUNT, I had already posted stating that the waterway I used my crab trap is not a waterway traveled by boats. And I was stating an opinion that it is sad that a crab trap that sits for less than 24 hours, which is normal, turns up missing.

Well that’s a first for me…“Locals”…please tell me you’re kidding. It is 2012…are there really poeple that have yet to figure out that racism is about as inteligent and as effective as peeing into the wind? I’ll tell you what…join a branch of the armed forces, go fight for our country and when the @#@# hits the fan look over your shoulder and tell everyone there with you that has different skin color than you that you don’t need their bullets going down range.
