Take boat to Keys?

Trailer tag is form RG-010A - for a boat under 26k lbs = $75

“Wife and I went in May of 2005. 25 knot winds non-stop. Truck got 9 miles to the gallon so do the math” — What he said, we used to go down every year and rented from these guys, http://fishnfunrentals.com/ in Marathon. As I recall, boats had vhf and depth finder. I haven’t been in a while, but if you rented for multiple days you could keep the boat at your dock. Looks like the rates have gone up a little. Used to be ~800 for the week. Well worth the cost of not worrying about the trailer and stopping every 200 to 300 miles for gas. Also, if the weather turns south, you could cut the rental days down. Have fun!

i am thinking about taking this trip in october. rent a house for a week with a dock. never done it before, but the price is right compared to a hotel for a regular vacation.

Renting a house with a dock right out back/front is the way to go. Walk out, jump in YOUR boat and go when/where you want.

That’s the only way to go. We rent a fine 2 br. 2 bath waterfront house with all the comforts of home and a dock at the front door for about $1,200 a week. Come in after fishing, sweating and nasty smelling, throw the clothes in the wash. Cook your own catch. Much nicer than any motel and cost less too.

“Bug Season” starts the last Wednesday and Thursday of July every year. “Buggy Season” runs from April through October/November…

I’ve trailered to Marathon and Islamorada, the houses are better on Marathon, however for some reason the fishing is better in Islamorada. I have had terrible experience with renting boats, they often have outdated electronics, poor live wells, and crappy bilge pumps! Taking your boat is always better imo. Look up Conch realty in Marathon they have a few house on the Atlantic side and the reef is 3 miles from your dock, can’t beat it.

Trailered my boat to Islamaroda few years back,

I DID NOT and still DO NOT have a tag on it, never had an issue BUT I will double check. Towing boat to Clearwater this year

Like others said, get house with a dock and most will have dock. ALso I would make sure house is fairly close to a bridge so it is quicker to go from bay to ocean. Seems like we stayed near MM 78(not sure) but we were right near Bud N Mary’s Marina

Fishing is great

You can rent boats and a decent CC will cost you about $1500+ a week and there are some very reuputable boat rental companies and some scams. If going this route I would reserve it NOW. Most look very well equipped but I have been told be check just before you go and make sure they still have you covered

Also I know in FL you have to have your boat strapped to the trailer from the rear too, they are a sticlar about that one

From the upstate it was 750 each way for us and at 9 miles gallon (this was when gas had just hit $2.00 gallon) it took quite a bit of $$$. Still it was cheaper than renting a boat down there

We always rent a boat when we go. Far less headache. Last time we got a 21-ish foot Angler with all Garmin electronics. 1 week was about a grand, but worth it in the long run.
