THE REEL VENICE.....(UPDATED)

10 weeks.

EXCELLENT!

A lot of people have sent me emails and PM’s about Rimmers operation but here is all the information you need to know!
Captain Rimmer Covingtons number is (601)-951-3981. You can also look at his website, which for some reason does not have a direct link, but go to goggle and type in: the Mexican gulf fishing company. Rimmer Fishes off a 39 sea vee but has an arsenal of other extremely respectable captains to fish with if you cannot book a date with him. He runs a great operation at the Venice Marina out of his houseboat. Park the car at the front door and the boat at the back door. The houseboat is very comfortable and sleeps 16 with two bathrooms a living room and a kitchen. He offers a package deal, which includes all meals while in Venice for 100 dollars a night per person. However if you find this too pricey ask him if you can just stay at the lodge and he will give you a nice group rate per night. IF YOU CHOOSE THIS OPTION MAKE SURE YOU GO TO THE GROCERY STORE BEFORE YOU GET TO VENICE, THE CLOSEST ONE IS 40 MILES AWAY! Rimmer is a very cool young energetic captain; he and his mates are a lot of fun. Talk to him and explain your situation and he will work with you on prices and fish days. Also ask him when he suggests the best days to fish are. He has a special calendar, which is like his bible that he sticks to religiously when picking the best days to fish! GOOD LUCK and Tell him Schuyler Reardon sent you!

Thanks for info. Rimmer was on tv last week with Shaw Grigsby catchn a big YF.
nice report.

great job, nice catch…

Ive been out of Venice 3 times. Man that place is off the hook. First time was to demo a boat and we caught 6 yellowfin in 1.5 hours and came on back in. That was with Capt Mike Ellis. Second time was with Capt Billy Wells. Billy is a member of Rimmer’s group, Mexican Gulf Fishing. We busted em up pretty good that day as well. Third time was with Capt Mike to do a seatrial. We caught 3 more yellows in an hour and then caught a limit of 6-10lb red snapper on the way back in. That took about 20 minutes.

I have never been in the winter, but the summer is ridiculous. July through October will produce almost gauranteed. Just when it shuts down off of Charleston and you are still itching, call up Rimmer and his group or Capt Mike Ellis. The WILL put you on some serious tuna and possibly a blue marlin. Not to mention the incredible grouper fishing. Capt Kevin Beach landed a 330lb warsaw last week aboard the Pale Horse.

BTW: All of the captains mentioned in this thread run the best boats in the industry and use the finest tackle available. They are young and energetic, 26-36 years old, and absolutely live to catch fish. You cant go wrong.

Going back in July to do an overnighter at the green canyon, 140 miles each way… Might need an extra guy to go. If anybodys interested send me a pm.

If you run 140 miles out and catch tuna…do those tuna count as part of tuna season?

Is Pale Horse still a big Aluminum deal?

Polly Wanna…

The Pale Horse is a 30’ aluminum Gravois cat built by Jimmy Gravois.

I think it is for sale… He is moving up to a bigger and faster cat. I think it is called a Freeman 33

It’s funny… Down there, about 90% of the captains run center consoles. They run further than we do, but demand a center console because of the speed, fuel burn, and ease of fishing. Most of them run catamarans, but a few are going to the bigger monohulls because that is what they have to do to get the ride and speed. Rimmer runs the 39 SeaVee, but the down side is that it is a $350K boat.

were u fishing with chris on REO or was somebody using his boat. What about the Crawgator did u fish with Bill
