How am I supposed to know what’s showing on that sonar? I was not on the boat and I have no idea what the gain and noise rejection or anything else was set to. I have told Skinnee before that if he wants me to explain to him how to read his sonar like any respectable bottom fisherman, then he could either let me borrow his or buy me the same model.
And I call BS on not having time to bottom fish on this day reported here. They had time to go to a spot or find a spot with some sort of show on the bottom and then take a pic of it. Either they tried to bottom fish, but they suck at reading the sonar so much that they couldn’t catch what they wanted to catch or they were thinking way too much about how to mess with Phin while they were out there.

Hey Phin, sometimes people will respect you a little more with a simple, “I don’t know” answer. It’s okay to not know things once in a while.
We didn’t exactly run around in 90’ all day looking for ways to “mess with Phin”. We just saw this show on the finder and knew that you were the resident sonar decoder. We figured that you could pull out your magic fruit loop decoder ring and tell us what was down there. But if you can’t, we all understand…
How much time do you need with a bottom finder before you can do your decoder magic?

Anyway I was commenting to chunky dunk on Sunday how hard it was to reach the water and rinse my hands in the cat. But now understanding your “alternate life style” I can see where this would be advantageous, having to bend over and such.

Hmmm…this IS all starting to make sense. The show tunes blaring on the stereo, the mandatory “pee stops,” that sense of uneasiness every time I tried to rinse my hands, playing hide the swiss cake roll…

I read up a little on molas after reading Skinnee’s report. Apparently they have relatively small mouths and eat primarily jelly fish. They also eat plankton and small fish. Maybe that ballyhoo was too big. If I see a mola, I think I’ll try a small, wadded up piece of saran wrap or ziplock bag. That works in a pinch on spade fish. I bet that would be a wild fight. Or maybe it would be like reeling in a giant piece of concrete. Either way, I would like to find out.
