Losing the remote was just a dumb mistake. I set it somewhere I shouldn’t have, and then an even bigger mistake, I forgot about it. I’m in the process of making a border around the top of my console, so nothing like that can happen again.

Striperskiff It was in the tank for at least 15 min before I found it. Has works well since no problem yet. Bob, I have put a eye hook on my seat back top to attach it to, cant stand it around my neck!

I’m thinking about Velcro to my dash, next to the steering wheel, on the inboard side. That way if it falls, it falls to the floor.

I hate it around my neck, also. I loved the belt clip that came with it until the cheap caribeener that came with it broke. Now it just lays on top of my console… But I do have a piece of teak on the console to keep stuff from falling off.
I have to keep mine close by so I can beat it to get it to work. Not sure what causes it to go out but while I’m trolling it will just time out and I have to beat it to come back on! Been that way since I bought the trolling motor.
I wore mine around my neck for a while, but it kept getting in the way. I shortened the lanyard & started to hang it on my steering wheel knob, which worked pretty good. My mistake is that I turned the motor off & set the remote on top of my console and forgot about it. I got my new remote yesterday. Hopefully I can hang on to this one. I’m still thinking about Velcro, but I’ll have some kind of lanyard on. it.
Yeah tigerfin, those caribeeners are almost worthless.

When it does this, take the battery out, rub both sides and put it back in. The battery loses connection somehow. Been doing it this way for awhile. Happens once every 2-3 trips…sometimes longer sometimes shorter. That’s better than beating on the remote…ha

With as good as voice recognition is these days, I’d love to see them come up with a system that uses voice commands into a mic on your collar.
It would be particularly nice when school fishing or any time you’re throwing artificials. How nice would it be to be following a school and not have to stop casting to change boat direction? Also, bass guys would eat it up.
It’s funny people that don’t fish think this is such a leisurely, care free pass time. If they only knew some of the issues we have to deal with.
I use Owner Mutu circles for everything. I used to be the opposite of Murrymaker and would use octopus hooks for down rods. However, the Owners work well for down rods as well. While pulling, I find my catch to bite ratio to be much better with circles. Snelling the circles also helps.

I use the same hook for everything as well and haven’t ran into any issues missing fish.
I know some people dont like using circles pulling live bait, but personally, I haven’t seen issues then either. I normally just pull 1 planer on each side and a couple of free lines out the back though, so maybe I don’t see it because I don’t have as much slack in the line to get out before the hook sets as when a fish hits on an outer planer a good ways out from the boat.
One way I do know they don’t work very well, even on down rods, is if you are one of those people who like to leave just the clicker on or a very light drag and then tighten up.
Mutu light wire for me as well for downrods. I am about out…lol…about a yr ago I bought EVERY pack Academy had on their shelves in #1 and 1/0 (these 2 sizes are so close u can’t really tell a difference). They either had then priced wrong or something but they rang up .89 per pack…lol…
When pulling I am currently using both gamakatsu and owner J hooks from 3/0-9/0. I will be messing around with a new hook this yr pulling boards.

HA … I wonder how voice recognition will interpret the language that comes out when someone catches a hook in the hand or one of those $150 rods goes overboard or that trolling motor remote blanks out because it’s battery hasn’t been properly rubbed …
I wonder if it will shut down and refuse to work unless and/or until you apologize for screaming obscenities at it … LOL
Rick, you watching too many sci-fi movies. I’m talking about voice recognition…not creating a TM with artifical intelligence that is easily offended!!!
