Towing a Boat

this is a good practice for anyone with 4wd. Chances are most people don’t use their 4wd much if at all. But you want it to work when you need it.

If you use it every time you pull the boat out, the servo won’t stick.

2003 Chevy LS 1500 4wd 300hp-V8 rated 8,000pds towing has pulled my 3,500 pds boat and trailer for ten years w/no problems.
Lousy gas mileage though.

I really doubt that you would get decent gas mileage with that Kia towing a big boat. it is all commensurate with hp vs torque vs weight. just my opinion but I like pulling my 19’seapro with my silverado. do not get that good of mileage but it is acceptable and I have confidence in what it will do and how easy it is to stop. besides; lake murray is just up the road.

Bought a F150 last year after selling my F350, dang what a mistake. The F150 got about 6-7mpg towing the Pioneer and struggled. For a 5.4L V8, that thing wouldn’t pull a wet noodle out of a cat’s ass. I had that truck about 2-3 months and it had to go. Got the RAM 2500 with the CTD and haven’t sweated it since. I pull the boat and get 15mpg doing it. My Land Cruiser pulled the boat better than that F150 did and probably got the same mileage.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

You’d be better off with the Explorer, or even the old body style Kia over that. It is now a car based SUV like so many other cute utes. They are basically just sedans with lift kits. The Explorer is built on a real SUV chassis like the Land Rover, Mercedes, Grand Cherokee, etc. Sorentos, Outlanders, Equinox, Escape, etc. are all just FWD cars in reality. Man I miss the days of truck based SUV’s.

Not any more - the Explorer dropped the truck chassis a few years ago. Dumb move by Ford.

edit - 2011. They swicthed to a modified car chassis…
