towing coverage

When considering the insurance towing rider, everyone should consider that both towing companies are in business for our members. In fact, Sea Tow Georgetown now requires a membership purchase to receive routine assistance (we will still respond to emergencies). In this situation, the membership is ‘pending’ until proof of repair is provided for activation…the disabled boater must pay all fees for the initial tow, but is covered after repairs are made. I guess, in a way, we are towing members only at this point. You’re going to have to purchase a membership anyway, so might as well get it ahead rather than have to pay full price for the tow and wait for reimbursement from your ins. company. When you buy a Sea Tow membership, the membership money stays here. Membership funds are the steady stream of revenues that sustain our business. We are reimbursed for towing members in certain situations, but our local members are our responsibility for the most part. Since we do not depend on an hourly rate for revenue, it is in our best interest to get our members home or on their way as quickly and safely as possible. Our membership is a flat rate of $169/year and is comparable to the $181 membership of our counterpart. Take a look at both and decide for yourself.

Either way…either service…membership is the way to go, and we handle insurance customers the same as Steve stated (no direct billing, etc.). It doesn’t matter what level of towing coverage you have with insurance companies. If we have to take our asset away from our members, we are only going to do so if it is profitable. Most of the time when I get a call from someone that has towing on their insurance, they decline our service because they don’t want to make a claim against their policy or wait for reimbursement. When I get a call from a member, they get service.:sunglasses:

Have had TowBoatUS for 15 years now - use it about once per year - good mental and pocketbook insurance!

Sea Tow does a great job as well.

Thanks, Captain Ross

I have had to use Towboat US twice. Both times the service was fast, courteous and professional. I have met Steve and his lovely wife and they are both really nice people. That makes it even easier to be a member of Towboat.

I have Seatow here locally , have gotten a policy every year since 2006 and never had to use them and hope I never have to, no offense Seatow. I do have a question though, I just booked my Keys trip and am curious about any options about coverage while down there. Does
Seatow sell any type of weekly coverage for that particular area for tourists or is there something my coverage up here can possibly transfer down there just for my trip.

You’re covered anywhere you go…on any boat you own, rent or borrow.

In fact, you are covered up to $5,000 per incident even if you’re in an area where we do not have a franchise. Just call the 800 # and they will set up a third party tower for you if you are in an area.

Thanks Richie, that is exactly the answer I was hoping for. That will make me feel alot better running my boat in and around Key Largo. I had heard that the coverage was only for your home port but nice to hear that I am covered down there too.

Thanks again
