Heck Larry, I’ve got a buddy out in Texas, that is down 2 fingers and counting! He keeps getting in the way of his Skill Saw:face_with_head_bandage: The worse part is, he does them 1 at a time[:0]
Wonder if that bunk stuff is the same stuff they make those Glide things you push furniture around on? As seen on TV, Available at Walmart
Doug, I’ve got some scraps and access to more if needed. RDW, what brand of slicks are you using? I’ll probably try just the carpeted bunks first, then decide.
Larry, I’d like to see pictures. I’m not squeamish. I haven’t been that intimate with the band saw lately, but I did nick my pinky finger with the trim router a few weeks ago. And burns, of various degrees, seem to be an almost every day thing.

Only 2? I was down more than that before the bandsaw Can’t afford to lose anymore and still get any work done.
That dang band saw, which usually gives me no trouble at all…I was cutting a piece of brass pipe and it snatched it away from me, beat me with the ragged end and snatched my hand into the blade, all in about a millisecond. Then I snatched my hand back about as fast, and back fisted the cast iron saw frame and broke 2 knuckles. 5 bandages, 17 stitches, 2 broke knuckles. That was 6 weeks ago, down to only 1 bandage now.
No pics Bob, I was home alone and sort of had my hands full for a while. Still ain’t typing very good.

I bumped a drill off a table yesterday and instinctively tried to catch it but caught the ice-picked sized bit in the meat of my thumb and it waaay went deeper than I wanted it to…but Larry wins. (**(), man.

For those who want to run slicks, buy better mounting screws.
Over time the last screw will slowly let loose as it takes the brunt of loading pressure. As the plastic bends it will twist the screw head and eventually pull it through the plastic runner.
Get the heaviest screw that will fit.
If you use scrap starboard, make sure to create a counter sink area to ensure the head of the screw has plenty of clearance. You don’t want to drive your boat across screw heads.

Great idea for a light boat. That composite decking is real tough and probably a LOT less expensive than starboard. Just keep that bow strap tight:smiley:

Ain’t nothing but a thing. After you’ve been blown up, shot, captured, beat, wrapped in barb wire, snake bit a few times…no need to sweat the small stuff like a finger or 2.
Like somebody once said, if ya gonna be stupid ya gotta be tough I just need to keep enough fingers to keep on building boats for a couple more years. Still got 5 out of 10. Naw, lets call it 4.5 for 10. That’s enough. Need to keep a couple to pick my nose, the rest were just spares anyway

I’m using trailer bunk ez slide pads on my 16 ft skiff and they work great on a light boat. They make trailering and launching much easier. I leave my safety chain and wench strap tight until I’m ready to push it off the trailer.
