I believe it would be about right on the 55lb for that size boat. I have an 80 lb on my 198 DLV with T-tops and a lot of extra stuff its pretty heavy and T-tops increase wind load so believe me that matters. Without a top though 55lb will be fine. Just make sure its long enough. Nothing worse than buying a short trolling motor.

55 lbs should be enough. I ran a 55 lb Riptide on my 16ft Carolina skiff, whipped it around real good. It was nice just having the 1 battery instead of 2 for a 24 volt motor.
