Trolling motor

If you’re into Striper fishing, you’ll never spend better money than going the I-Pilot route and a bow mounted trolling motor gives much better performance over any stern mount. All the replies in this thread are just trying to convey how good the I-Pilot really is. Ensure you pick adequate thrust for your boat size. My 55 lbs of thrust is very adequate for most of Lake Murray’s water conditions on our 17 foot Ranger, but more is probably required or desirable on a bigger rig.

Lots of good advice in this thread the people are always willing to share there past experiences good and bad. It sure is easier to fish alone with I pilot and spot lock . Trail back and cruise control and speed control also a big plus . … You have a big boat you should get the most thrust you can afford Good luck whatever you decide.

Get group 31 or 33 AGM’S. Get a charger that will charge them.

Spend now, take care of them (this is the most important thing). LITERALLY as soon as possible put them on charge. Take care of them and they will last forever. Mine are going on 5 yrs. And haven’t missed a beat, I have zero worries heading to a tx that is calling for 20mph+ winds. I have pulled into a 15-20+ head wind straight for 8+ hrs.

I have MK power brand batteries but have heard great things from other brands. JUST TAKE CARE OF THEM. Do not leave them uncharged…

FB2 you will use the TM more than you would think in salt water, I’ve used mine in the Gulf to fish around the oil rigs and around flotsom in the gulf stream casting for mai mai. Get the riptide saltwater model, it about $100 more and well worth it. I’ve got the 24V on my 23 cc and it has done well! But the 36V would be the way to go! I have built a quick mount out of 3/4" starboard and can move the motor from boat to boat in 30 seconds. Like I once said I wish I had on my Bertram sporty!!

You will change your mind on that bow mounted trolling motor. That 30# motor wouldn’t be enough in all the wind we had this weekend. Also there are times when the fish just won’t eat when pulling boards and free lines and then you can spot lock over the fish and put a few down rods with the I-pilot. That I-pilot is worth every penny!!

I don’t like to brag but I had a saltwater trolling motor waaaaaayyy before anyone else…Fifteen years or so ago. It was on the bow, had plenty of thrust, but was a tiller handle. I stood up there and we cruised the cane banks and slayed the Reds and trout. I had some meathead ask me wtf that thing was doing on a CC…I opened my cooler, and he shut up quickly. I got restless in the winter and someone suggested Striper fishing. I used that thing to fish along the hydrilla before they wiped it out. In those days you could catch 50 fish near the dam in January easy.
