Trolling rigs and skirts

Last 2 rods finally set up ready for trolling season. We’ll see how well the lower cost sets ups work. Right close to $1000 invested in my 4 only trolling set ups. Spooling these last 2 myself with 600-700yds of line each sucked.

I know we’ve been giving you a lot of crap but those plugs were a good investment.

Man it’s no skin off my back. I can take the brunt of jokes. I work with plenty of people that that’s all they do is talk smack. I’ve read a lot where it takes a heavy set up to pull them high speed and idk that the cheaper 30-80 and 50-80 rods (all $80 and under) can handle them but I’ll find out soon enough. My dad has a couple super stiff all roller rods that worse comes to worse I can use. I’m just itching to get out there! Was hoping for Saturday but doesn’t look fishable with green crew and 2 of my kids. Heading to Hawaii in 7 days so it’ll be a couple weeks before I’m open again. Maybe the dolphin will show up by then.

You don’t have to high speed those btw. We just pull as part of our normal spread

Sweet that was my plan as the 6th or maybe 6th and 7th rod if I can make it happen

However getting my boy into fishing with me relieves the wife of watching all 3 kids which gives me the hall pass to go more often.

Its not about losing them…you don’t want to be taking hooks out of the fishes mouth, then re-rigging a ballyhoo if the fishing is hot. Takes too much time. Unhook the leader from the swivel throw the fish the box then get the new bait back out ASAP. Then get the rig back when you are cleaning fish later.

You should have at least 20+ baits rigged and ready to go at all times. I know guys that will have 30-40+ ready.

Y’all have way more faith in my abilities than you should or even I do and I am an overly confident guy. I’ll be happy to get fish #1 on the troll in the box. We’ll worry about fish #2 when that time comes. I don’t see a huge difference in not having 1 of 6 rods in the water for the 90 seconds it may take to hookup another ballyhoo. However I will have 10 rigged all the time. I do think it’s a good idea to get some more sea witches though. My first 10 were stolen from my house that Capt Ed sent me while I was in Florida for 3 days. Never had a package go missing before. Being the generous guy he is Capt Ed is sending 10 more.

What if 3 or 4 of the 6 go down or most of them get gut hooked and you can’t get the rig back?

What if you happen to miss that one sailfish of the day swimming behind the teaser because your head is down and your not watching the baits?

Just trying to help you maximize your chances out there man.

I’ll never be out with less than 4 of us so hope it doesn’t happen but good looking out.
