I don’t think it’s going to be cold enough for a long enough period of time to hurt anything this time. A few more cold fronts like this one could change everything though.
I witnessed the cold spell of 2009-2010 and saw hundreds of dead fish floating in the Port Royal area, mostly trout. It was a sad sight and it took 3 years for the fish to make a decent recovery. Sure would hate it to happen again now. Just a cycle of nature though, it’s been a lot colder than this before and will be again. Those trout have been living here longer than white and black folks have, and they will probably still be here long after we’re gone.

I am hoping you are spot on. It’s encouraging that the water temps. in the creeks around here have come up to the upper 40’s each day during high tide. The water just offshore is still around 49-50 degrees (Edisto Nearshore).

Excellent, RD. Too bad Saturday will be so stormy. I beleive it would have been a great day to get out!

Measured off the docks at the ramps held 1 foot deep. (same as your boat would read)

RD, I hope you checking these temps by car and not boat! I live on Yonges Island and use the Dawhoo ramp exclusively for boating.Frozed mud sounds very ominous for the fish.

43 in Bailey Creek. 45 at Dawhoo Bridge. Dead low tide. Frozen mud everywhere.
I was out this afternoon in the cooper. Water temp at high incoming was 46.5. That was the lowest I saw. In the creeks I had about 47.8 up to a max of 50.2. But! Good news … Caught 15 trout to 17.25". Literally drag the jig on bottom and feel resistance. That was the bite.

We dodged a bullet with the vortex (at least in Charleston), but I fear the next few days might result in a kill. Water dropped a couple deg overnight and we have cold weather through at least Sat. We’ll see? Run, Trout, Run!
Dave, these next few days will be a trying time for the fish for sure. At least the sun will be shining during the day and hopefully the fish can get a little warmth from it. The morning temps will be hard on everything and everybody. Thanks for the earlier report from the Cooper.
