Been doing pretty well on the Cooper past few trips, most are sub 20" but bite has been typical compared to last year before really warmed up. Topwater bite hasn’t really picked up yet in AM for me at least, but they will destroy a slow rolled Zman.

Thanks for all your input…Kinda backs up what I was hearing…Areas with relatively shallow water were locally hit very hard. Rivers with deep water, ie shipping channels, fared relatively well…

Good point Dave. Access to deep water is key.

Most the trout ive heard of being caught are over 20 inches, 20 to 24s.

40- We have caught maybe as many over 20" as in past years, but we have also caught all sizes in between even down to 8". Good sign.

I think this will result in more fishing pressure in those areas of deeper water, and all the more reason to release all trout through the major spawning season, if not all of 2018. These are the ones we have to work with!

Wasn’t the DNR supposed to release their findings sometime this month?

“…be a man and PM me.”

I thought the DNR was asking that all trout caught be released because of the winter kill.

Good point on the shallow water areas, Most of lower Stono and Wadmalaw Sound is very shallow until you get to areas around the N Edisto

They did and most people I know have obliged but the DNR didn’t make it mandatory.

These fish are more resilient than given credit for. Keep releasing though.

Fished the Broad River (Port Royal Sound) today and we caught 10 trout under 14" and one over. They seem to have done okay here.
