All fishing techniques vary and depend on the bite. glad to see my freshwater tackle can double for the latest trout fad. been fishing hank brown hookup for years in this way. cant see the “trick” pattern being any better since so similar, but will give it a shot
Big Gaddy, You’ve got it. When I have a school really pinpointed, I may give one jerk instead of two, when I’m scouting an area (like a deeper water flat) I may give 6 to 8 jerks before the drop.
Raddaddy, You hit the nail on the head concerning the difference in the Shakeyhead and TroutTrick techniques.
I remember, while fishing the FLW Tour in the early 90’s, Mr Hoot Gibson, R.I.P, of Arkansas (credited as the originator of the Shakeyhead) coming down the dock with a handful of spinning reels and his pro for the day shaking his head, because Hoot (fishing the co-angler side) was gonna outfish him unless the pro was on something real strong.

Yes that was quick, just like the bites I expect to on the new bags of TT you just sent me. Rip, rip, stop. How long is the stop? Do you ever just dead stick it for as long as 10 or 20 seconds, or is more like 2 or 3 seconds?
Mostly 2-3 seconds (shhhhh, don’t give up deadsticking for a bigger bite)

Obviously you haven’t bass fished enough then because I often fish a shakey head just like a trout trick. Fish it just like that around rock piles, stumps, and into schooling fish in deep water. So don’t try and be a smart ass. Not my fault this product is just a knock off of a proven big fish producer

I got a hearty giggle outta that.
that old cat has caught a few largemouth. back in the day for sure - not this week.
but hey what do old men with 30 years of 100+ days a year on the water know?
Might have learnt a little on the FLW tour too, ya think??
I have learned that when certain people speak, I best shut up and listen. Others, not to listen.

I’d keep this quiet. you’re rapidly losing your yankee credentials.
Who was this directed towards? You might want to check your bottom quotes for punctuation.

No need for the attitude.
The TT is like any other bait. Sometimes it’ll work better than something else, and other times it won’t. It’s a combnation of the lure, color, rigging, and technique. Anyone that has spent any time fishing would know that.
You can fish a Zoom worm or a Senko type bait on that light jighead, and you may at time catch as many or more than the TT…and vice versa. It’s a confidence thing. If you aren’t confident you’ll catch them on a Spook, you probably won’t.
It gives another option for catching fish. You may be able to fish a smoke grub the same way and catch them, or maybe not…but if you have confidence it’ll work, that’s more than half of the equation.
Man those are some nice lookin trout! I have yet to get some of those trout tricks. Been looking forward to trying them

Peapod, I thoroughly enjoyed our phone conversation. This Salkehatchie River Jackfish is what we are talking about when referring to catching a “yellow”. They get a yellow tint after they get over about 2 1/4 +/- lbs.

Nice post PeaPod. You landed some nice trout. Was using the TT last weekend and caught my first trout on that bait. Also caught a rat red. Thanks Bob for the tips. I will have to “work” on my technique. Opti has it down as he has had great success with the TTs.
Seafox 187CC
nice jackfish, bob! i’ve never gotten one over a pound…
i saw one caught in the savannah by striper fishermen that pushed 6lbs- i was surprised by how great they eat too!
Is a jackfish the same species as a northern pike? They look identical
