I was wondering when someone was going to bash the 6.0L. The 6.0L wasn’t a bad engine, it became problematic when people started hopping them up with programmers and not doing the other things necessary to handle the additional power. Lots of International trucks still on the road with the 6.0L set up the way the manufacturer intended for it to be.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

I’ve had two 6.0l one in a 350 and now a 250 over 400k miles and wouldn’t trade it…tows and more importantly stops the boat

I’m a Ford guy for the most part but I wanted a diesel and Fords latest offerings leave a lot to be desired. The complexity of the new rendition of the PS and unproven life or reliability left me with one choice. Dodge was it, the Duramax may be great but after the 6.5 I had GM would have to be the only option left after all the horses were dead. You’d be very surprised how nice the RAM is these days, not to mention you can at least get a Dodge dealer to dicker on a price.

I sure can’t say I blame you, they are very nice looking and nice riding trucks.
I’m always on the poor-n-cheap end of the truck. Meaning, by the time I can afford them, all the unreliable models have been long in the junkyard. Somehow, that almost always means I end up buying a Ford or a Chevy/GMC (gas motor, I’ve never bought a diesel), or if I need a smaller truck, a Tacoma.
I have several good friends with Rams and Tundras, and a couple with the newer Nissans. Honestly the Nissan guys seem to be the happiest, but we’ll see if that remains long term. There’s a garage door business I know that owns several of the Nissans and they adore them. Gas motors, though.
The upcoming supposed-trend toward smaller displacement diesels may prove interesting. I’d love a small 4/6 cyl diesel Tacoma

Salty the later model 6.0’s are better since they started putting commonized parts on the motor I am a ford guy and not here to bash them by far. Problems Ive seen are cracked heads bc for some reason the 6.0 motors only have 4 bolts per cylinder The EGR cooler, a lot of times, leaks, puts water in the cylinders, creates a hydraulic effect, which blows the head gasket and leads to a cracked head which is very common since a lot of diesel owners drive crank up and go like it is a gas motor and the EGR valves get clogged up with soot bc the engine is not allowed to warm up to operating temp by the owner

Diesel will pull anything but it’s quite a price difference. A 2500 with a solid v8 and 4x4 will last forever and be more than enough for most people’s needs. Remember that the majority of the towing around here is flat and level. Most 1/2 tons will do the trick.
Go with a 3/4 ton truck. Will a 1/2 ton pull it yes, but you will feel better with the 3/4 ton. I don’t care how short of a distants it is. You will regret a 1/2 ton the first time the family says hey we should take the boat to the keys for vacation an you white knuckle it all the way down there. I made the same mistake when I bought my boat. Had the titian. Boat ready for offshore trip is 9800lbs. It was 36 mile from my house to ramp. It would be so bad my feet would sweat. It had the power to pull it all day long. Stopping it and the way the boat would push me all over the road espeacially if there was a little bit of wind was the issue. Save yourself some money, time, and stress. Get the right truck for the right job. My dad has a Chevy 2500 gas and pulls my boat with out breaking a sweat. I went dodge 3500 with the 6.7 cummins, but I plan to upgrade some time and was just planning ahead. You boat plus fuel and trailer put you right about were I was and you still have yet to add ice gear and tackle. So add another 500-600lbs and puts you over the 10000lb mark of the average rate 1/2 ton. Then legally that is a whole other issue.

Thanks for the input. Picked up a 3/4 ton 4x4 today.
Congrats you made the right choice. Now we want pics of the boat hooked up to it when you get it!

Funny you mention that… Because I bought the truck that the dealer used to bring the boat up from the gulf coast. Seems they already had a good relationship.
So they were “mated” when I first saw them.
Lol, well maybe that’s a good sign. What brand did you go with? Diesel or gas?

I think you made a wise choice there. You’ll eventually get to where riding in a half ton will feel like a go-cart with slinkies for shocks.

Haha,
Stickman, i looked for your answer to my question in the thread, but maybe i missed it. did you see my question about what the actual weight total is? just curious if you actually added it all up. What year truck did you get? I have about the same truck and options (7.3). it does very well for me.

Thanks, I had already done the math and realized I would be launching and retrieving around 9-10,000 pounds.
Plus, , what about the NEXT boat?
As my neighbor suggests, this boat should be named “For now”
Oh yeah, it’s a 2010 with 66k miles. Already love the backup camera on the nav screen.
Just keep that ford serviced and it will run forever. I have an 05, 350 dually with a 6.0 with 525000 on it. I always let ford do the work, even oil changes.
nice truck, you’re gonna like it. mine has 250k. you won’t have to buy another truck for a good long while
