Paul I look at Sailflow app and click charleston buoy. I go to reef cast and click map around edisto buoy or ledge and cross reference. I do however only use the S Santee to Edisto out 20NM on NOAA. If anything i can stay close and bottom fish.

Ryan, right now is the best time of year for wahoo fishing, work the 30 fathom ledge with large lures, high-speed plugs or planers.

Sells, I’m looking at reef cast with extra wave info. It shows GT hole at 4-5 ft with a 11-13 second period. It shows nearshore areas (around 10 miles out) at a hair over 2 feet with a 11-12 second period.
IMO, it doesn’t look too bad because the forecasted period is so long. the only thing that concerns me is the small red line in the forecast model which essentially represents secondary swell. since the secondary swell should have a generally W or NW direction, the further you go the snottier it will get (in theory). I’m going to be trying nearshore tomorrow, So theoretically it will be a nice long period 2-2.5 foot swell with small chop. I won’t hesitate to turn around if its too snotty though.
It was a 10 second swell period last time the little guys tried to go…unfortunately, the wave period was only 4-5 secs. Unless something changes soon, I expect to hear how snotty it is tomorrow afternoon/evening…
^yep 6-7 yrs ago i would be all over this…not no more…
SAFMC you suck!
Reef cast will get you in trouble quick if that is your go to app, but it is a decent place to start. And don’t forget about the wind waves.

The secondary swell on reefcast is supposed to be the wind waves, but you have to select the drop down box to extra info to show it. Otherwise, you won’t see it on the forecast. Also, magic seaweed measures the wind in Beaufort force which I generally find more helpful than a wind number. Anything more than a 3, and I don’t want to be out in it.
5-10 out of the west is ok. Any east will not be good. A 12 hour forecast is pretty reliable but beyond that you’re taking a gamble. I see offshore tomorrow at 4-5 '. Last bouy report I saw was still just under 6 feet and steep. Not for me.

The weather went south when “someone” said “maybe”.
Looks just fine to me. Couldn’t talk the guys into taking off. Going on Sat.
was quite nice today for us offshore, although we almost didn’t make it! one of my starters crapped out on us at the ramp. fortunately I had a spare at the house and we were hammering down by 7:45.
We headed south through large spaced rollers with a light chop. quartering seas out, quartering seas back. We only went 20-25ish miles out though, 30-35 mph. Was a little bit wet on the way back, but the enclosure did fine.
Due to the wave direction, I tried to scout some new bottom areas without too much success but we caught enough to have some fresh dinners anyhow. Highlights (other than the first people to change a starter in the tricounty area this morning
) were bringing a 7 foot shark to the boat side on a chicken rig and we also had to look up the state record for white grunt to make sure we weren’t eating a record
… one of the two we caught was just less than 5 lbs. Also, managed to find a sweet looking ledge I will explore more in grouper season.
Also, I got checked by the DNR today TWICE! once 15 miles out and also back at the ramp… Two times in one day is a first for me.
That was a ROUGH 45 mile ride into the jetties coming back! Took so much water over the side. Came back NW direction

We ended up completing the meatfish slam my first ever time attempting trolling. A high success for us. Report to follow late tonigt. Took 3 hours to get in from ledge then on way to Columbia a N Charleston finest cut me off fast n furious style and caused me to wreck into him (his fault thank God but jacked up my dads truck but boat fine. I’ll post report once we spray off boat and clean fish tonight. Still in Holly Hill.
