6 of us went for a week back in July. Fished with MGFco. for two days then went out on our own diving and Tuna fishing for three days. Check Bugcatchers archives. Pulled a 33’ out of Ft. Myers and all the truck fuel, boat fuel, house boat rental(only way to go)food, we cooked our own, two days charter, tips and plenty of beer and other adult beverages, we spent $1400 each. The year before we just chartered for two days with same outfit, all costs included was $900ea, 6 of us, a steal for sure. If you get a chance to go it is the trip of a life time. With Brianh and S4G down there all the time it sure opened up the deer hunting for Realfish01 and myself, greatly appreciated! Nice trip guys
Epic adventure for sure! This was my first October trip. The fishing lived up to the hype. Once the baits hit the water the tuna ERUPTED on them! Looked like mayflys over a brem bed except the brem weighed 80 plus pounds and melt in your mouth after a dash of soy sauce!
Hard to explain the power of these fish. MGFC boys use shimano Talicas, silky smooth, they hit another octave when the big ones eat! All about the ZZZZZZZZZZ!!!
I have a couple videos and I think Bully does too. Fishing was insane for sure but the ride home in the 37 was pretty (**() impressive as well. We had the ocean to ourselves. No one else was willing to run back through the 5x7s in the pending thunderstorm. Beach warned us that another pass on the fish could lead to a ride through the heart of it… But the TUNA are BITING!! Lets catch em up!
Glad Two Sons finally got to see what all the fuss was about. I think he may become a Venice regular.
Set the trap boys, we going to pass through them again!!
At least one boat braved (and fished through) the weather out there. I was with Travis and we met at the dock - and it actually wasn’t that bad except for about 30 minutes. Nice meeting you, and thanks for the tip on quartering the loins.
Nice pics…Im driving back from there as I post this. Venice is great…but with all the posting of pics and reports on here I think people still need to realize fishing is fishing. We went offshore Friday with a highly recommended boat/Captain. I think we got screwed by the full moon. Not many shrimp boats out, not many fish at the rigs. We got some blackfins and a yellowfin. We did come in and crush a limit of grouper. On Friday there were more boats that came back with meager Tuna catches than not. The inshore fishing is better around Hopedale/Delacroix also. Not nearly as much freshwater.

I’ve fished Venice and Hopedale/Delacroix too, and it can be just as good around Venice when the conditions are right - even better maybe when the bulls are stacked up in the passes (40" bulls on every cast with plastics a couple years ago). But like you said, fishing is fishing. I’ve also been skunked offshore there in the past. No matter where you go, fishing is fishing.
Hey Goat…I fished a day out of Pass Christian into the northern marsh, and we did well on the trout and reds. In Venice the river was down some, but still had to run far, but we could catch all the 25+" reds we wanted. (And did). As far as the offshore goes, our Captain made the best and put us on some fantastic grouper. It was a great trip.

We had one of those days as well. Sunday after the stellar day we had on Friday we only caught two dolphin and three baby yellowfin. I want to say that the cold front turned them off but some of the other boats had a great day.
I think most were fishing out of Southwest Pass around the shrimp boats. We were north/east around a Ram/Powell, and Horn Mt. Not only do you have the rigs, but you have drill ships, which will hover in one place for months on end.
Sweet pics and good work! Sure hope I have the opportunity to fish there someday. The looks in the faces says it all - off the chards
With rates so low, now may be the perfect time to refinance or purchase your dream home. If you are thinking about home financing give me a ring!</font id=“blue”>
I’ve been watching people post reports and pictures for the past few years from Venice, and I’ve just made up my mind that I’m going to get a crew together and take this trip next year. I’ve always wanted to go to a place and catch Tuna’s.
