DNR website says release as quickly as possible and gives instructions on how. If you can’t release and you’re offshore, it says to bring the turtle back to DNR. I think he’s alright posting the picture…

These things happen sometimes when we fish. Nobody likes it, I don’t like it when it happens to me, but we can only do the best we can. Looks like you did that. I wouldn’t worry about the picture. You haven’t broke any laws and you did the best you could for the creature.

Keep giving in to the political correctness of the liberals and you will end up with nothing to give in too.

No body in their right mind would burn you for what you did. Unfortunately, the world is full of idiots and bleeding heart libs. I can only imagine that somewhere, someone is crying about that picture.
I can see it now: “look at that picture, he is strangling that turtle so hard that blood is coming out it’s mouth. Look at all of the turtle blood in the sand. What is this world coming to…First Global Warming and now The Great Turtle Strangulation of 2014…Everybody Panic”
All jokes aside, you obviously did the right thing, and I wouldn’t worry about the picture.

I agree with this. No need to take the pic down. DNR isn’t computer forensics so people need to relax lol.

Originally posted by 40inchredsI never felt that bad when catching a freshwater turtle and unhooking them or when I catch a Diamondback Terrapin but this little fellow had one of those faces. He winced every time I would try to pull the hook and was really calm when I handled him. I felt really bad for him. I caught it in the harbor by the DNR along with 15 plus stingrays a few small fish and one big break off.
Report the turtle ‘encounter’ to NOAA and I bet you will get a “thank you”.

People on this website will turn you in for anything. Ask Skinnee about his tamey mallard post or ask me about my dolphin from this summer.

You did the right thing. PETA and company will still come after you for messing with the turtle. No good deed goes unpunished in our PC world.

yeah, It will definitely be an awesome story to tell family and friends. But you gotta look out for DNR and local anglers who could get hit by this. and by that I mean some snob who isn’t a Charleston native could come running by this on the internet and blow it up. in the long run hurting your local DNR.
