Everytime we go visit the beautiful Dr. Brady’s family in Miami and I get to fish (which is almost every time), if I catch a barracuda, Nana Ramona, the Dominican nanny of my nephew, will make dinner for her family with it. Along with it she makes a mango chutney and rice and beans and thinks it is a banquet.
The more we just complain…the more things stay the same.
Now that all the culinary affectionados and other assorted conservationists have weighed in, MomBakc, cuda don’t require venting. What you probably saw bulging was a previous meal …
Reelly old is correct, Cudas caught trolling do not need venting. A cuda will feed until it’s belly is bulging. I have eaten cudas - and they are very good. Large white flake like grouper. They must be filleted and skinned and for safety - only smaller (under 20 lbs) cudas should be consumed. Cigutera is a very serious concern.
I’m not suggesting eating them. I think that they smell horrible. I too was raised that if you kill it, you should eat it. But, I can kind of see both sides of the story. I don’t know the correct answer, but I do know how people feel about coyotes and I kind of see cudas like that. Maybe it’s biologically sound, or maybe it’s not, but it just makes sense to me that if man has such an influence on the ocean and we are killing prey for our own consumption, then we might need to thin out a few predators as well.
Sorry, but I disagree! To me the thrill of offshore fishing is when that reel starts screaming. Yeh, it"s disappointing if it"s a cuda ,I"m grocery shopping, but if it happens to be a cuda that"s ok, I"m not going to kill a fish if I dont have to because it was hungry and ate my bait!
well said man. killing them for the sake of it is not going to put a dent in their stocks anyway.

yeah…I know that cudas don’t need to be vented. I was just stoking the fire a bit is all. I’ve fished with a bunch of different people and on other people’s boats I go by their rules. We can discuss it before and after but their boat, their rules. If I respect them and their boat then it’s up to me if I want to fish with them again or not. I have vented my share of cudas but as of late…why kill something over doing what it was programed by nature to do. I won’t stop fishing with someone over an issue such as this but I do enjoy a good discussion on the ride back in.
If you’re not effecting the world around you in a positive manner…you’re taking up too much space.
On our trips to Tabago when we catch baracudas we clean the fish and save the heads to swap to taxi driver for ride. exclent on the grill with Oldbay and galic butter and mango/lime maranade. We take our own Oldbay they dont have it down thare also no gritts
