Wahoo Rig Question?

I think skinnee is right your getting cut off from the looks of the placement of the “duster”. I always use Bimini’s to a snap swivel to leader,10-15 ft.wire or mono, capt’s choice keep it simple and you’ll catch more fish.

Silky, the line is popping the instant the fish hits. No time for the “duster” to travel all the way up to the main line.

We did catch one of the fish that popped the downrigger wire rig, a dolphin, and he still had the rig in his mouth. When I got home yesterday I inspected the rig and there was still about 20 feet of mainline connected so it didn’t break at the knot, it broke up from the knot about 20 or so feet.

One change I made was I used a larger planer on my downrigger which dove deeper. This put more tension on the line so I had to use a larger rubber band to keep the bait down (smaller rubber band would pop from the tension).

I wonder if that had something to do with it. The line would break before the line had a chance to cut the rubber band and release. I’d find that hard to believe but who knows.

Have you checked your guides/rollers to see if they are buggering up your main line?

This is what I am thinking now. Try running a different rod on the planer next time.

Did someone forget to level wind and let the line bunch up in the middle until it hit the spool guard once or twice?

Haven’t the ball bearing type Spro swivels been know to create a “pinched” spot where it goes through the swivel? I switched away from Spros for wind ons for this reason. Just a thought.
