What's your favorite grouper rig?

I was going to say that Dude,I agree with the leader, when braid first came out I thought it was the bomb. But braid has its weaknesses.

so just to be clear, you run braid to a mono or flouro leader and then the swivel followed by a mono carolina or dropper rig? What do you attach the braid to the mono? A uni or a fg?

Ok novice question. When using a Carolina rig for grouper, how long is the whole rig, and do you fish it with the weight on the bottom or suspended some depth above the bottom. Grouper has certainly been an enigma for me, and very elusive. Any help appreciated.

I’ll say it again. 3 way swivel rig. Easy peasy for someone starting out

Make sure you put some white braid on your zebco though :stuck_out_tongue:

ok I get that, but on the bottom or suspended some depth from the bottom is the question.

Drifting- crank it off the bottom maybe 5 feet

Anchored- on the bottom

Catch lots of big red snapper that way too. Ugghhh

I always “START” with what SELLSFISH says because I completely screw things up with anything less. Glad he still posts when he has the inclination.

We have caught and released a probable state record gag on much lighter tackle. Sells is right on if you want to bang them in numbers though…

Anchor and fish it closer, drifting over large rocks and ledge, crank it up some, they will come up for a live bait
