The reds are all over the place in the winter…you just have to know where to look and use soft plastics. Work it slow.
“In every species of fish I’ve angled for, it is the ones that have got away that thrill me the most, the ones that keep fresh in my memory. So I say it is good to lose fish. If we didn’t, much of the thrill of angling would be gone.” Ray Bergman
Those free booklets that they’re refering to are more than just “how to catch” the fish. They’re all about the life cycles, their mating patterns, where they hang out at various parts of the year, what they eat at different life stages, and all sorts of other in depth information. All of that info will help you not just catch more fish, but understand the Whats, Whys, Whens, Whens and How’s.
Also, you do not need to spend all that hard earned money on the expensive Owner and Gamakatsu hooks, Cajun Thunder floats, DOA shrimp, etc. There are perfectly good substitutes that are half the price, if not less, that just don’t have the name brand that everyone goes nuts for.
If you’re not willing to go get the free books, go to the free seminars, bug the guys at the tackle shop and want to rely on this site for your education, utilize the search function. You would be amazed with how many threads and topics there are answering the questions you have. If you find the answers and tips vary from thread to thread, look at the date of the post and soon enough you’ll notice seasonal trends. Look at the reports and see what people are using and where they’re fishing at certain times of the year. You’d be surprised at how much you can learn by just reading as many threads as you can.
The last thing you’ll want to do is to give hell to anyone on the site who’s trying to help by replying to your thread.

Dave’s originally from “up North”, however he’s making the transition to becoming a Southerner as seamlessly as I have ever seen. And he’s become a pretty fair fisherman.
The friend asked why the Rebel Army had continued to fight when defeat was certain. They were simply afraid to go home and face their women.Gordon Cotton

So my dad and I have no idea about winter fishing all we know is that the trout are still around. here are my questions
Where are the trout at?
How do you fish for them?
Are the pinfish still around to be casted on, or do i need to freeze them?
Are the sheepshead still inshore?
What bait do you use on sheeps?
Do you fish sheeps on docks bridges or rocks? What tide?
My dad and i have a 19ft bowrider so we know we wont be getting up on the flats, are their still reds in the creeks?
we like to fish folly and lower stono a little harbor or wando if its not too choppy.
19ft sea fox 125 merc
13ft red kayak!
The trout wre feeding at different depths, so try live bait (shrimp/mudminnows) to locate them in creek mouths, on the bottom, near oyster rakes, or float fishing at high tide over them. Or…Use grubs/electric chickens etc tipped with a mud min and slow troll to locate them.
Pin fish are always around.
Sheephead are still here but when it’s very cold, the artificial reefs are a sure bet. (Your dad’s boat can handle that)
Pilings, rocks, or oyster rakes are also a feeding ground for them.
Fiddlers/shrimp/clams/ and those little mussels on pilings will all work.
Just some basic information that can all be found throughout this website. Hope this helps.
Yakman, google is your friend. Try googling “how to catch fill-in-the-blank” or “fill-in-the-blank fishing techniques”
You will find as much free info as you can handle. Read it all. Twice. Then read it again. Before you know it you’ll be outfishing Captain Mitch.
Bob - His Boys are already referring to him as a redneck fisherman. He was frying up fish in his driveway on Thanksgiving, so I thought he’s definately a redneck. The only thing missing was cold beer.
