This was back in the late 70’s. I saw a family drive up in an old beat to crap station wagon with a trailered McKee craft trailered. It was Sat AM and busy at Wappoo landing. The wagon stopped in the middle of the lot and a kid got out, chocked the tires and took the boat off the ball. Dad drove the family wagon around and put the front of the vehicle to the front of the trailer , The kid put the receiver on the ball that was welded to the front bumper and climbed into the boat. Dad drove the wagon forward pushing the boat & trailer down the ramp He knew when to stop when the fan belt got wet and started squealing . With the trailer still attached to the front of the boat, he backed up and drove forward into a parking spot with the wet fan belt singing the whole way Then he raised the wagons hood , removed the battery and with the family in tow walked to the boat - they hooked up the battery, cranked up and took off - Dad Mom and 3 chubby kids doing at least 5 kts !
Been a while since I seen a trailer hitch on the front of a vehicle.haha And I remember taking the battery out of the truck to use on the boat motor a few times.Most vehicles would still run with the battery removed back then.
hahaha NatureBoy that is one of the best stories i’ve ever heard

That was the quick way to check your Alternator after having to jump a vehicle off. Pull off the battery cable and if it shut off Alt was bad. You can still do it, but no need as most vehicles have a volt meter built in.
Nature boy brought back some old memories with my dad. He’s done the same thing using the Truck battery in the boat. He could have afforded another battery but was too frugal to buy one.

After being released, a lot of fish die, but a lot of them live also.

Thats what you call a fishing car. Use to be a guy that sold them on Savanah highway.

It was one of those old station wagons with the wood panels. I doubt you could find one in a junkyard ! They were very popular in the 60 & 70’s
Don’t know if it’s the best story, but yesterday at Shem Creek, a paddle boarder tried to jump off his paddle board onto the dock. Yep…big splash. So he had to swim into the middle of the creek to catch his board.
He then swam his board back to the dock and his buddy helped him put the board on the dock - cross-ways with 1/3 of the board hanging off the side as he tried to climb up on the dock (he would not swim to the ramp and walk out). He fell back in 3-4 times even with his friend trying to help him climb up the side of the dock. He finally made it.
Can’t fix stupid.

After weigh in after a bass tour. I backed the trailer in for my buddy to load the boat and this drunk pull his boat on my tra. and gets out and into my truck and says he’s ready to go home. Took me 10 min, to convince him he was in the wrong truck! Another time a newbee said he could back me in so I let him, I just got a new club cab dully and when he pulled into a parking spot he parked my tra. on top of another tra. Lord what a mess!
Well, had taken my girlfriend and her friend out for the day on the water. After a wonderful outing we headed back to the boat ramp. The was no dock so I left the boat in a few feet of water and went to get my truck. Well the next thing a see is her girlfriend leaned on the throttle boat took off, in the meantime my girlfriends top came off, she had some BIG FUN BAGS. She did get the boat stopped, then pulled up her top. Other guys at the ramp loved it, their wife’s didn’t .
As I said it was a fun day #128540;
Brand new boat, first time in the water, my wife usually drives the boat on & off the trailer she does pretty good at it. This time we had to take her dog, tiny POM, which had its life vest on. She drove to the dock so I could get my truck/ trailer. When I left the boat the dog decided it wanted to go with me instead ( an imprint thing. ) she was afraid the dog was going to jump in the Ashley River and be alligator lunch. She went to stop the dog from jumping over the side WACK !!! Hit a piling WTF. I didn’t say a thing other than , someone had to be the first one. #128560;
Cypress Gardens landing. Coming back from a Duck hunt. Was going to park the boat on the edge of the ramp…guy starts screaming at me and waving me off, I look down into the water in time to see the top of the cab of his submerged truck.
Wilson’s landing, watched a Glassmaster fall off the trailer at the top of the hill and slide all the way down to the water.
Shrimping with my Dad. Backed the trailer into the water and was waiting on him to bring the boat. Crowd of boats waiting in the dark too. Boat coming toward my trailer ( not my boat )so I wave it off, gal backs off lines back up and comes on again, I back her off two more times…and she starts yelling at me, explaining that she can’t line it up any better than what she was doing. Hollered back that she was trying to get on the WRONG trailer. Just then her husband’s truck ( identical to my Dad’s come rolling down the ramp.
Country Farm landing, watched a Trans Am and trailer submerge while the guy was bringing the boat to
it.
Same landing, alone, very late at night ( had motor problem ) and got back to the landing around 2am after shrimping. Pulled up to the light to rig down my boat. A car all the way down at the far end of the parking lot, lights up ( lights under the car too ) and drives up nose to nose with my truck blocking me. The 4 guys that got out and started walking toward were up to no good, and decided to leave in a big (**() hurry, when they realized I had a friend named Browning with me.
Watched a tug of war at the landing at Santee State park. Gal in a Jeep with her husband in the matching bass boat. Landing is real shallow, Jeep is in the water, boat is still hooked up on the bow, guy is gunning the motor trying to get off the trailer, cussing, raising hell at her to back up further. She’s scared of being pulled into the lake and finally guns the Jeep and jerks him out of the water, once on dry ground she jumps out of the jeep and gives him a BIG piece of her mind.
Landing on 17 across the Combahee River. Gator hunt some
After a long day Bass fishing pulled up to the dock and tied off. I was alone, went to fetch the truck and when I got positioned to back down heard a lady with her husband and kids hollering (cursing) at me about blocking the ramp. Now mind you there is 3 other ramps open. I try my best to let it go, I get out of the way and she proceeds backing their boat into the water still cursing me. So I notice off to the side there is a NC Wildlife Officer watching it all. So to light the fuse I ask her if she kisses her youngins with that dirty mouth. Lady flies into full fledged meltdown gets out of truck with beer in hand to go off on me. Well I guess that officer had seen enough I left landing while the citations were being written to her and the husband.
