I have a slow leak at the bottom of the tilt/trim housing. It appears to be coming out of a hole near the port side and rear on bottom. Any ideas of what could be causing it to leak in this area? Or what this hole is for?
I was wondering if I could put some 5200 on a bolt and plug the hole.
I have the same engine. Recently my engine would no longer tilt and leaked down rapidly. No leaks evident. Tried bleeding procedure and nothing. Ended up getting on eBay and buying a used unit rather than try putting in new seals. From what I gather, if when you go to take the motor housing and/or reservior housing you are bound to sheer off a bolt or two as they freeze up over the years. I didn’t want to go that route. Had a bit of a bad experience with my eBay purchase. I bought a good-looking used assembly for $700 (these things are almost $3k new). Upon installing it the next day I had a pool of fluid on the shop floor - unit was leaking! I tried tightening bolts around the trim motor housing - the first wouldn’t tighten - had been sheered off and put back in with epoxy! 2nd wouldn’t tighten either, I could turn it by hand…I stopped there and returned to sender for a full refund ( I had to pay return shipping). Got back on eBay and found another used assembly for $500. Installed and works great. Eventually I’ll sell my old unit for parts and recouple a little $.
