06/14/14 report

Left out of Calibogue Sound with Courtland and BNZ Saturday morning. Caught bait and headed out to Eagles Nest reef (I think this was the one…I don’t remember exactly). I have only been offshore a few times and I was hoping to catch my first cobia. About 10 or 15 minutes after we dropped the lines in, game on!

We moved around to various locations, and caught lots of AJ, about 16 triggerfish, 4 red porgy, and a 16 lb. red snapper that wore me out. Was a shame to have to let that one go back. As I mentioned, I don’t have much offshore experience and Courtland was a good teacher. He and BNZ were great company to boot. I had a great time in spite of feeling queasy most of the day. I had taken my Bonine, so I never chummed but just felt kinda weak and lethargic most of the day. Stuck it out though until I got the snapper on board…then I had to hit the bean bag and skip the last 45 minutes or so of fishing. Bottom line though, was that I had a great day and enjoyed fishing with Courtland and BNZ.

If you’re lucky enough to be fishing, you’re lucky enough.

Nice catch

You definitely stuck it out, and thanks for that.

We rode and rode, 10 more miles, 10 more miles and so on. The pretty blue water in 100’ had disappeared and dropped 3-4 degrees. We found fish everywhere, just looking for better quality and finally found it.

Pogies were thick. Quite easy to find once they floated through the rip off South Beach.
