Searched high and low for schooled reds. No luck.
I never had any luck with winter fishing until now.I took Capt Greg Peralta’s advice and landed 3 trout (11in) and 1 red (14in).
I struggled with how slow to retrieve the jig. My mind was drifting while I was retrieving ( watching some wood peckers fighting) and then wham! So I locked in on the pace…so slow you get bored.
Water 55 degrees.
Fished creek bends real slow with bad shad minnow Z (best plastic jig I’ve ever seen). Zmann is local and in ladson 1/8 oz head.
Yes, was bouncing on the bottom, more like scooting across the bottom because I tries not to lift the jig much. Maybe 1/3 inch bounce. The bottom had different contours and “trash” and mud. When I got bit I didn’t realize it at first. I thought I was hung up until I tried to free myself and that is when the fish started fighting. If fact with the red I was about to use the trolling matter to free myself and then he took off!
